Make me feel as if I am lacking in something.
Do I have a backbone or has it disappeared because I do not have anything 'in' for Christmas ?

Seriously. There are only so many hours in a day and only so much food to be consumed. The pressure to go out and buy is building. I am staying strong, but there is another nagging feeling that when I do go out to 'shop' there will not be a fecking sprout left on the shelves.

Bah humbug

I mean... a whole turkey for just three of us? Is it really so important? My daughter thinks it is.. she wants the 'Nigella' Turkey in all of its glory. I'm thinking one of those turkey roasts in a tin foil thingy will be fine but oh no, because it is Christmas we have to do more/bigger/better.. I am getting more humbuggy by the day

Can you explore what it is about the turkey she's after?

As in, is it because she loves the turkey / leftovers, etc, or is it having it as the centrepiece on the table (in which case perhaps she could make a centrepiece to fill the space?), or does it remind her of christmases with wider family, etc?

I think it's easier to work out how best to substitute the big turkey for something more suitable if you can find out what's driving her need for it.

It's only food, and she's obviously not going to eat the whole turkey, so it does sound rather mad to get a huge one for just three people unless you have a plan for the massive amount of leftovers. You could make soup, curries and casseroles from the leftovers to freeze, but that obviously entails extra cooking over Christmas, so it certainly wouldn't be my first choice!

Is she old enough to batch cook the remains afterwards?

I think she remembers other times when there was a houseful of us.
I am posting a bit tongue in cheek with the humbuggy stuff.. I think it's just the relentless gravy train of adverts fooling us into thinking its all got to be done or we are missing out !
