I’ve recently moved out of the UK with my 4 year old to join my husband who is working here; he’s working away at the moment and I’ve felt increasingly unwell as the day has gone on. I had Covid pneumonia hospitalised for there weeks last year and this feels exactly the same as how that started; pulse oximeter seems low and I know absolutely no one in this country to help with my son if this gets worse ☹️

Can you lie on your front to try and help your breathing? If you can bear it, it can help improve oxygenation.

You could try posting on the Living overseas topic on here. You never know there might be a MNer in the Bahamas willing to help.

Just to offer another perspective, panic could definitely be contributing to your symptoms. Being in the situation you are in and not feeling well is very anxiety provoking! That could definitely be giving you chest pain and shortness of breath. And pulse oximeters vary in their reliability (I have a rubbish one!). This is not to say that you shouldn’t seek medical attention because when in doubt, you always should. But anxiety can have a really scary effect too and is not to be underestimated.

It’s 89 consistently now laying down but you’re right it does seem easier on my front and oxygen is up to 93 then. Thanks so much everyone i felt so alone; husband isn’t answering his sodding phone which is helpful.

Have you recently started using this oximeter? Has it given you higher readings before?

explodingeyes · 19/12/2021 23:52

Prepare overnight bags. Get yourself ready for the worst. Then don't panic. As people have said, post on local FB pages or board on here. Hopefully you'll be fine but anxiety will be less. A 4yr old won't just get left alone. Nor will he be scarred for life if things are less than perfect for a few days

It’s always 99 or a 100 usually on this device. I’m going to give it half an hour recheck it and then call for advice if it isn’t improving I think; I’m probably just panicking over nothing.

You need to get medical advice. Your son will just have to come with you to hospital for now, local social services may be able to help with an emergency carer once you get there. You need to seek assistance because this isn’t necessarily Covid. You may have a pulmonary embolism.

Chocorangeinthestocking · 20/12/2021 00:11

I have long covid and my oximeter reading sometimes goes lower depending how I lie, I can’t lie on my back for example. Does it improve if you’re sat very upright/walking around? Try to lie propped up on your side if you have to lie down, otherwise move around/sit up and check your levels, don’t lie on your back.
I’m also abroad and understand your isolation, so sorry. Do you have any friends/mum type friends who could help
you out in the event of energency? Can they watch your dc whilst you at least get checked out? 💐

How are you doing, OP?

@Shuffleuplove

How are you doing, OP?
Thanks for asking; it’s the middle of the night here and I feel terrible but hoping to get through to morning so I can visit the doctors rather than hospital. Sats haven’t moved above 90 but frantically hoping it’s not Covid.
