I’ll go first!

I’m proud of publishing second book, wrote during lockdown with a newborn.
I’m proud but not happy about, enduring unsuccessful fertility treatment and the travel during lockdown. I had to leave my DS and DH at home each time.
I’m proud of standing up dork myself in a family dynamic where I am normally the one issuing the grovelly apologies
I’m proud of giving up social smoking in Jan! After 20 years on and off.
I’m proud that my business has finally
Really taken off after five years of slog!
I’m happy with the work we have done on the house though there is still a lot to do.
I’m proud that DH and I have muddled through to a decade together and that we have been great parents to our much longed for and Herculaneanly strong toddler.

Next year I want to make a year for pleasure and enjoyment. I want to learn to relax more, be more spontaneous and actually enjoy my life. I want to learn from people who are good at this. I want to take on NO major projects and I really want to learn how to lose weight and maintain a healthy weight for life as I’ve always struggled with this.

How about you?

So inspiring!!

@PeonyRose80 brilliant to hear how you moved toward what you really wanted at work.

@Terribleluck blimey LIFE GOALS- big year! Do you have plans for each of these areas for next year?

@madroid I think making it through this year intact is major. We all need to be proud of what it took. Thank you

@Newnews congrats on your new addition and on ebf. It’s great to have the chance to redo the baby time. I’ve some regrets from mine and hope to have a chance to do something different next time if I’m lucky enough.

@SproutsAndCheese that isn’t lame it’s incredible. I dream of reentering normal bmi. How’d you do it.

@RainbowToes -all power to you- court proceedings are a huge strain. Enjoy your peace and freedom!

So many amazing replies on here, keep them coming. It’s not about scale it’s about impact for you and it’s so inspiring to hear what people plan for the future. :)

@Bloodybridget amazing - rowing club fit is proper fit!! Here’s to a great 2023!

@languagelover96 Duolingo is such a brill invention. Is French the first language you’re learning or are there others? I found my Italian improved so much more when I forced myself to take conversation classes

@Chunkymenrock very intriguing!
@RoxytheRexy well done on passing first time!! Took me three goes and moving my rest centre! 😂

For the Future- that’s a biggie - I can imagine opening your mums box will be a big moment with a lot of memories in.

I got a call today to say the Guide dog puppy I raised has been matched with her new owner. What's even better is she's been matched with someone on the coast, and she flipping loves the sea!

I'm massively proud that despite covid and dealing with family illness, I managed to raise a fantastic pup who's going to change someone's life - I've cried some happy tears today 😃

Angliski · 20/12/2021 19:47

@alongwayhome what a brill story!

@Bloodybridget @WhatAHexIGotInto yep, breast cancer can do one. The SafeFit trial was fab for me too. Finished chemo and radio a year ago (had surgery first), couldn't walk around village when I started the trial in February 2021. Now fitter than I have EVER been. I got my kickboxing brown belt earlier this month Grin. It meant so, so much I came off the dojo and promptly burst into tears 😭. Still jolts me every time I put the belt on thinking how far I've come this year 😁

Reconstruction due in 2022, then I want my brown white, pre Dan, then black belt (though looking at the fitness test and three hour grading, that may be one for 2023 when I'll be 50 Shock)

bibliomania · 20/12/2021 20:20

I'm proud of a failure - I failed my driving test, but I'm proud I started lessons after spending years and years being afraid. I'm proud I immediately booked another test and have taken more lessons, and with every lesson, it's not quite as terrifying and overwhelming.

Plan for 2022 - pass! But if it's not the next time, then book another test and keep going. And once I pass, then get a car and drive - I know a few people who passed but then stopped driving.

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 20/12/2021 20:25

I've got my BMI down from 33 to 24. It's been a slow and not altogether linear journey but I look and feel much better.

Next year, I want to lose another half stone to reach my personal happy weight. I'm aiming not to go mad over Christmas and then to focus on reaching and maintaining my target as 2022 unfolds.

MouseholeCat · 20/12/2021 20:27

Having my DD in October after three miscarriages. There are other things I'm proud of but they are all dwarfed by that.

If I get through next year in one piece as a working Mum in a senior corporate job I'll be damn proud of myself.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 20/12/2021 20:31

I'm proud that I got myself into a position where I could afford a new kitchen, bathroom and central heating system. I'm a single parent and have worked hard and had promotions that put me in a position to afford such things even though the loan repayment amount feels scary on a single income a few years ago having a nice kitchen wasn't even on the cards.

Lemonlady22 · 20/12/2021 20:40

Staying alive....and staying alive!

Angliski · 21/12/2021 16:33

@ArblemarzipanTFruitcake tell me how you did it pleeeaaassseee. Well done!

@MouseholeCat - so many congrats. So much fun and so many firsts ahead.

@Lemonlady22 ahhh harrr harrrr harrrr ( points at her disco ball)

@Angliski

Thank you! I based my diet on the principles in 'Why We Eat (too much)' by Andrew Jenkinson. The basic idea is avoiding processed and refined food - so cooking as much as you can from scratch, with no added sugar. The diet is naturally low-carb but unlike with designated low carb diets, you can have as many unrefined carbs as you like - fruit, veg (including potatoes) rice and beans - but not pasta as it contains flour which is refined.

You should also avoid refined oils - so cook in butter, olive oil, lard, dripping, goose fat etc. but not sunflower or nut oils.

This needs to be sustainable so while you should avoid processed and refined foods, it's more important to minimise them than to cut them out altogether.

There are threads for this way of eating in the Mumsnet weightloss topic - lots of people have succeeded with it.

Reading the book first is a good idea as it explains why this works and also helps you let go of any guilt you may feel about your relationship with food and your weight.

Angliski · 22/12/2021 23:24

@ArblemarzipanTFruitcake off to buy it… I guess bread is out too right?

Yes, bread should be avoided - but the good thing about this diet is that the odd lapse won't ruin everything. I've had bread on occasion - just not as an everyday food.

GTAlogic · 23/12/2021 00:36

I can't think of anything I'm proud of from this year at all.

Next year I aim to lose the 2+ stone I have put on over the last 5. Not by going on any special diet though; I will just eat less.

I also want to make some more of my own clothes and be happy enough with the quality to wear them proudly.

Lexie365 · 23/12/2021 01:32

I'm proud I have lost 4 stone🥰 and gained a lot of confidence. next year I plan on losing the final 1st 4lbs and really want to tone up and build muscle. I am also proud that I have gotten into more pictures the last few months as I usually don't take any, next year I want to take a lot more pictures and videos but more than that I want to have more family days out, date nights, nights out etc.. I'm only young and my weight has held me back in a lot of ways so I'm refusing to let life pass me by anymore x

Holothane · 23/12/2021 03:01

I’ve survived that’s all I’ll say here hellish year.

Angliski · 24/12/2021 18:14

@Lexie365 well done! I’m well impressed. I’ve fet sad that I have fewer pictures of myself with ds because I am ashamed of how I look. I hope I can really tackle it next year.

@GTAlogic how exciting to make your own tailored clothes. My grandma had a mannequin tailored to her size and she always cut a major dash.

@Holothane you survived. That is something to be proud of. I hope the turning of the year brings light for you.

That I visited my dad in icu before he died. I had a thread on here about it as I didn't think I could face it, but when it came to it I did and I'm very glad I got to spend that time with him. Getting gowned/hooded up and waiting to walk in felt like one of the bravest things I've ever done. I like to think he was proud of me for holding it together and being there for my mum and sister.

Holothane · 24/12/2021 19:05

Thank you. for feeling proud for me I’m just hanging on, things have started to finally happen so I can see light it’s very dim at the moment but it’s there.

Mommabear20 · 24/12/2021 19:13

I'm proud of giving birth to DC #2 naturally without any pain relief despite him being back to back and BIG!

I'm proud of the amount of 'stuff' I've got rid of out of the house as I've always been a bit of a hoarder but now feel much better for letting it all go.

Im proud of both DC and am amazed everyday at the joy their little smiles bring to people! 🥰🥰

NoToast · 24/12/2021 19:14

As a single mum I bought a new house in November getting me and DD out of a shitty area into somewhere much nicer. The outcome of working my arse off for the last 8 years. Over the last few days have refelted the garden cabin roof alone. I have a complete fear of heights to the point I get wobbly standing on a chair and I've climbed up there, got the torn felt off, new stuff on and hammered in about 300 clout nails. I want to strut round pointing at it! Grin

Angliski · 25/12/2021 03:49

You are all SO amazing!

@NoToast come on, post a pic of that roof lady!!! I want to see.
@ToJabOrNotToJab that is so courageous. And you got to be there for papa. Amazing.
@Mommabear20 legs crossed and squinting proud face!
