Bread maker suggestions please!

My ancient machine is finally giving up the ghost (leaking, creaking and sometimes works, sometimes doesn’t quite). It was a pretty cheap Morphy Richards and had been going for 6 years now so I can’t really complain!

Has anyone any recommendations for a decent warhorse machine - not air within need one that makes cakes, jam etc unless they are actually good features!

I don’t have a budget - maybe £150?

This thread is a bit old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for bread makers, we’ve recently updated our best bread maker page with loads of great options, whatever your kitchen size, budget or dietary requirements. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

It won't help much now as obviously you'd have to wait until they have them in, but I got one in Lidl last year just before lockdown. It was only about £50 and it's brilliant. Worth looking out for.

Excellent - I’ll keep an eye out. I can hand bake for now (ive got a bit lazy having the machine).

Panasonic is the way to go. Consistently the best breadmaker. You can usually pick up good bargains on Ebay

IloveJudgeJudy · 19/12/2021 16:00

Panasonic all the way. Mine's got a timer which is very useful.

guessmyusername · 19/12/2021 16:04

Panasonic here. Mine has dispenser for adding nuts and seeds etc.

filka · 19/12/2021 16:06

I was going to say Panasonic every time, that's what I've been using for about 10 years.

But here www.argos.co.uk/browse/appliances/small-cooking-appliances/breadmakers/c:29569/ the Morphy Richards and Russell Hobbs have many good reviews and seem to make a larger loaf (my Panasonic uses max 550g of flour).

One advantage (maybe) of the Panasonic is the dispenser that lets you add seeds, raisins etc. at the right stage of cooking - but tbh I just put everything in the main container at the beginning and bake on "basic", so I rarely use mine.

Does a dispenser make much difference? I just lob mine in!

My sons Panasonic bread maker is really good, would recommend.

I've got the Panasonic linked below and I love it. I rarely use the dispenser. I mostly use the pain de campagne recipe from the booklet. They have a recipe for doughnut dough on their instagram account that I've made several times too.

Panasonic.

Our Morphy Richards one died at Christmas too! On Christmas Eve and then only one we could get was a Panasonic from Argos. Its been a really good machine and I'm pleased we didn't have any choice!

It's got a raisen or nut dropper which we've not used much but it's a good feature when we do.

KittenKong · 20/12/2021 10:16

I’ve been measuring - it’s quite tall isn’t it? Our worktops (in my Hobbit kitchen) and quite low and I don’t have a cupboard to keep it on. Currently I have a grill sitting on top of my break maker (yes my kitchen is like Hobbit Jenga) and I’m not sure I have the space.

Ohnoohnoohnoooo.

I also vouch for the Panasonic. I have one and it’s amazing.

KittenKong · 20/12/2021 10:22

Oooohhhhhhh. I’m going to have to have a clear out! I haven’t used my grill for a while. But it’s useful…

My load yesterday was half rock hard and half squishy. But great! This machine is definitely on its last legs!

My Lidl warhorse gave up the game last year and DH bought my a Russell Hobbs one that is nowhere near as good (and only makes loaves half the size).

I would deffo go with a Lidl one if you can lay your hands on one 👍

CaptaNoctem · 20/12/2021 12:12

Panasonic - my first machine lasted 25 years and only got retired as the bread started sticking in the pan.

I'm now on my second which is much fancier but still seems robust and reliable

KittenKong · 30/12/2021 10:49

Bought it bought it bought it! The cheaper Panasonic was on Amazon for £89 (still full
Price on Argos). However I don’t get my hands on it until the 22 Jan. But hey - it’s £149 in Argos…

Didn’t get the dispenser - lots more for not a whole load of use.
