hi all,

scared out of my mind, hands feel so numb I'm shocked I can type.

ex 27 weeker has only been out of NICU for a few weeks, got admitted today with bronchiolitis. was put on high flow and is now being ventilated because he keeps dropping his sats down. I'm so scared. has anyone been in this position?

the doctors are saying it's really common this time of year and he was alresdy on the back foot because he was premature and he just needs a bit of a rest to fight the virus but I feel so shaky and keep having panic attacks

Handhold from me too OP. I’ll be awake most of the night, feel free to post on here as much as you need. I hope you will all be ok Flowers

Flowers He's a fighter. You're determined. My ds was premature but less so. It's a scary journey.

Dogshark · 19/12/2021 01:07

Not been there op (although I have had other life threatening concerns with my dc so maybe have some idea) but I know people who have had kids in the nicu and then gone back in. I also know a baby who wasn’t in nicu go in with bronchiolitis.

All came out fine. It’s scary but your baby is in the best place. X

So sorry OP. From my experience it seems to be a risk of being discharged at this time of year, I knew a fair few babies who were readmitted. My premature baby was discharged in the spring, by winter he was over 1 & still managed to get himself needing extra oxygen after an infection.

It's horrible because you feel such a relief at coming home, then feel like you have to start all over again.

Hang on in there, the staff will be used to treating this. Trying to get plenty of rest - can you stay at the hospital?

Candyss · 19/12/2021 01:31

we are being transferred to a hospital about an hour and a half away and I am able to stay there fortunately.

yeah, I have a 2 year old too who catches everything :( just gutted we are back in already. it was so wonderful having him finally home after nearly 3 months in the neonatal unit

So glad you'll be able to stay with him.

Hopefully you'll not be there long, but there may be local support groups at the new hospital with other ex-NICU parents that you can talk to.

It's hard to feel like you're going backwards, but hopefully it's just a minor bump in the road.
