Does this look normal?

I know this has nothing to do with being a mum/baby etc but does anyone know if I should be worried about this? I had severe pain in my gum/tooth for about 3 weeks, I’ve been to the dentist and they told me it’s just my wisdom tooth coming through. It’s now a couple weeks later and the gum has grown over it but it’s this weird colour? I’ve also had a very sore throat for over a month too. Do I go back to the dentist?

Can’t find anything like it on the internet. Help please?

I get the same thing every so often, thought first few times it was my wisdom tooth but turns out to be a throat infection. Bonjela helps ease the pain on the gum. Hope it eases soon for you

Am having problems with a partially erupted/impacted wisdom tooth which I've finally agreed to have extracted (long waiting list though). So I do sympathise!

Try slooshing regularly with warm salt water - it really helps. It was the only thing my dentist recommended when I asked her what I should do to deal with soreness and bleeding while I'm waiting to have the tooth out. Also good for reducing bacteria in the mouth.

I'm not a dentist by any means OP so I'd get a second opinion from one if you're unsure.

However from memory mine looked similar, it got infected a lot. It was impacted so never actually broke through so to speak so just stayed half out and constantly became irritated and/or infected where essentially food particles where getting stuck in the hole in the gum. I had all of them out in the end under GA.

Regular salt water rinses may help, or an antibacterial mouthwash, ibuprofen. Try to keep the area as clean as you can with something like a water flosser.

If you get a funny taste in the mouth it may be infected so I would contact the dentist again in that instance.

Mine look very similar and periodically flare up for a few days / weeks.

I get wisdom teeth flare up’s too and it can be really painful. It was infected once and I’ve never had pain like it! My dentist says to rinse with salt water and have the water as hot as you can stand it…wow, it made such a difference and I do it regularly now to keep bacteria at bay!

It's called pericoronitis. Rinse out after eating with salt water- you can use corsodyl but it can stain and if it's starts becoming painful/swollen get antibiotics from your dentist

WhatdramathisChristmas · 19/12/2021 12:42

If you can, clean under the gum flap to remove bacteria. A cotton bud with Corsodyl is good for this, a bit painful, but worth it.
