Blinds are in hand but not ready yet. We need some sort of temporary (stick on?) blackout cover for a velux window. Any ideas please?

ikea do paper black out blinds and they are very cheap

Cardboard?

ThePug · 18/12/2021 13:43

You can use foil- I've been known to pack a roll in suitcase for holidays when you just know the curtains will be rubbish and little ones awake at dawn Grin

I used these years ago. They're Velcro.

I just taped up a piece of cardboard from a packaging box. You can buy travel blackout blinds aimed at parents that attach with suction cups, think they are by the Gro company.

Bro blinds do a travel blind with suckers. You can pick them up second hand for cheap

Clarabellawilliamson · 18/12/2021 13:46

Gro blinds not bro blinds!!

A Gro Blind on Marketplace would be ideal. Usually loads for sale locally for £5-10.

Tin foil. Dampen the window and smooth on

MangoBiscuit · 18/12/2021 13:49

I was also going to suggest foil. You can just mist the window with water, lay a sheet of foil over it, and press it on. It won't stay put forever, but it lasts a few nights, and no mess to clean up. Has to be flat though, not tucked into corners.

I’d also suggest a gro blind, you can normally find one on marketplace. We use one every time we travel anywhere & use tape to stick it on if the suckers done stick well.

Black bin bag.

We had gro blind for years and put up the ikea ones last summer - they are excellent and totally recommend! You can cut them to size as well

wineandchocolateforthewin · 18/12/2021 14:26

We've used a gro blind since our daughter was a baby, it's great

Leaveitonthefloordrobe · 18/12/2021 14:26

Yep, aluminium foil works a treat. I've used it on holiday before like a pp (particularly on caravan holidays because the curtains are always thin). Dampen the window. Stick the foil. Does the job perfectly.

Thanks all, it’s quite a big window, will need a lot of foil! Maybe I’ll get one of those extra wide rolls
