All our out-of-house plans are cancelled. Christmas fun ideas for kids that are indoors or park based?!

Theatre, Santa visit, and ice skating have all been cancelled by the venues. That’s what we were going to do on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday next week!

Now I’m looking at over excited kids with nothing to do over the holidays! Lots of friends are away.

Please give me some ideas! What can we do at home that’s fun? We live in London, so any outdoorsy fun things (that won’t get cancelled) that anyone can suggest?

Cinema?
I’m at the theatre now in London ( break) so not every theatre is cancelling. Which theatre show is it? I bet if you Google other ones you’ll get seats. My theatre show has a few left, maybe 80% capacity. It’s a great time to get tickets!

Also winter wonderland still is on and I bet you could get another ice skating rink if you googled. London pretty busy, lots of people about and things to do

Outside ice skating if there is any on

Christmas trip to a farm

Do a treasure hunt for them with clues to solve at home.

Make/decorate a gingerbread house.

Make and then deliver some Christmas cards to neighbours/local friends.

Go for a walk/drive to see lights in your area.

Christmas movie and hot chocolate/popcorn

Numerous Christmas crafts

Whereabouts in London are you? Might make it easier to suggest local activities.
Cinema
Museums still open
South Bank

If Winter Wonderland is your idea of overpriced hell, there are ordinary funfairs dotted round eg there's one on Clapham Common

Open air ice rinks - and the regular indoors ones are big barn-like places, so might be acceptable
www.timeout.com/london/things-to-do/ice-skating-in-london

Junior parkrun - even if not your thing usually it couid be a good one-off

If you're feeling grave (and ideally if you have wetsuits!) then open air swimming at somewhere like Brockwell or Tooting Lido

Attractions that are mainly outdoors like Kew Gardens or the Wetlands Centre in Barnes

Visit to Corams Field and/or the Diana Playground

Walking tour (loads advertised, all sorts of themes)

Visit some different parks - simply because a change is good - maybe Battersea which has a zoo, crazy golf (with an outdoors cafe, licenced for the grown ups!) and a Go Ape

BMX lesson

Older DC - at least 8+ - check what's on at Westminster Boating Base

How about the zoo? Still open and need all the support they can get. Admission isn't cheap but less than theatre

I’ve just booked gangsta granny at Bloomsbury theatre for next week so still loads to do / open in London.

Christmas light bingo.
Look on Etsy there’s some templates.

ElfIsTheImposter · 18/12/2021 15:44

Cinema? We're going tomorrow.

Our kids were meant to be in school until Wednesday but not any more 🙄

We're at the other end of the country but have planned-

Winter lights trail
Swim
Lots for solstice - treasure hunt (v traditional Grin), Yule log, mulled apple/cider, lots of lanterns/feeding birds/bringing greenery into the house
Christmas films
Walks to collect holly
The temperature is dropping so we'll probably make ice lantern things
Still eating the gingerbread houses - if you haven't made one yet design something interesting (castles or trains usually go down well with small people)
Go to see other people's lights with hot chocolate
Walk & Bonfire on the beach with marshmallows to toast
Farm park or zoo to wish the animals merry Christmas Xmas Wink
