New carpet installed. Not happy.

We had w new carpet installed today. And I want to know if I am unhappy for no reason.

The carpet is covered and I mean covered in ripples. Is this normal?
Also. There are a lot of patches where it moves up and down. And I don’t just mean a little I mean a lot moves up and down. Doesn’t seem to be adhered to the floor at all. Also. I’m attaching a photo of the seam between a door and the bedroom which is just awful. It is already coming up.
Am I expecting too much?

Nope. That’s dreadful. Sounds like it’s not tight/stretched enough so hopefully easily fixed.

StillRunningWithScissors · 17/12/2021 19:45

That looks poorly fitted to me.

Thatsplentyjack · 17/12/2021 19:46

That's a really bad finish. Covered in wrinkles isn't normal no, but I did have a few bumps in mine when they were first done, which I was really annoyed about, but they disappeared.

Definitely shouldn't look like that. Should be fully nailed down. Smooth with no ripples.

Take some photos and email to the shop/fitters.

YANBU I had the same problem once because it wasn't stretched enough. Called the guys and they calms back to sort it

Willdoitlater · 17/12/2021 19:50

I don't think carpet is adhered to the floor. It's stretched tight and held by the 'gripper strips' round the edges of the room. If you don't have these, carpet supplier/fitter should have asked if you wanted them, (at additional cost of course), I think. If done correctly it will be lovely and tight and smooth. Your picture is awful, not properly done at all.

SleighbellsZ · 17/12/2021 19:59

Carpets need to be pulled tight so no lumps or bumps.
Takes photos and get in touch with them tomorrow it's poorly fitted.

You should start a new thread rather than hook onto an old one, but: It's the type of carpet you've bought. We intentionally got one that does this like soft velvet, I love the look.

UselessAtPacking · 24/07/2023 15:21

Its the style of carpet, the way the pile changes

tonygore61 · 24/07/2023 18:25

Don't use carpetright as our new carpet we had fitted in May is 2 colours but the firm says it's shading,we complained but now after 11 weeks we are still getting fobbed off by customer services who never keep us updated we have to do all the chasing

Maaate · 24/07/2023 18:28

It's literally supposed to do that.

BMW6 · 24/07/2023 18:53

OP my Dad was a carpet fitter and has his own company.

That is a piss poorly fitted carpet. Get them back in to refit properly. There shouldn't be any ripples, ridges or bumpy bits!

Shocking work.

BMW6 · 24/07/2023 18:56

Meant to add, the carpet is never stuck to the floor. Gripper rods should have been put around all the room edges and the carpet stretched out onto the rods, so it's really held flat.

That doorway join is a travesty.
