Possible chicken pox - flying Sunday

Argh!

My 5yo is double vaccinated against chicken pox, he had it done when he was 2. Chicken pox has absolutely torn through his class the last few weeks and I’ve been feeling so grateful that I got him vaccinated. He started feeling a bit under the weather on Wednesday, kept him off and got him a PCR which came back negative. He’s had a temperature all day and I’ve just got him out of the shower and he’s got two little spots on his back Sad. They’re absolutely tiny and look more like little pimples than the spots I’ve seen on Google. He claims they don’t feel itchy. I tried to take some photos but I couldn’t get a focus on them and he’s crabby so I didn’t persevere.

Any advice? I can’t call the GP as they’re shut until Monday and I can’t go to minor injuries or a pharmacy with him and ask them what they think as if it is chicken pox I need to keep him inside. Obviously we won’t go away if he has CP but I don’t know how to find out if he does actually have it as it looks as though it’s incredibly unlikely that he would be able to have caught it having been diagnosed.

No idea but flying with any kind of infection with temp is a bad idea, imo. It can get worse with dry air/altitude/pressure, let alone it maybe contagious and potentially putting other people into testing/isolating.

Assuming you are in a UK/Europe type timezone, I'd put him to bed and see what they look like in the morning. Chicken pox will probably have spread significantly in 12 hrs.

If it’s not CP we’ll still be going. It’s an overnight flight so he can just sleep. His dad lives abroad in the arse end of nowhere. If we don’t get that flight it won’t be possible to get out to see his dad again until February. He’s absolutely desperate to go. Obviously we won’t if it is CP but unless he gets much worse we’ll still be going.

They physically won’t let him on the plane if the spots are visible.

Dts cp started with two tiny back spots, sorry op.

If it's the pox it will be obvious in the morning I would think. It could just be a viral rash or something unrelated. Quite unlikely to be CP if he's vaccinated, and if it is it will almost certainly be v mild.

He’s only got 2 spots on his back at the moment. They don’t look particularly like CP spots but combined with him being ill and everyone in his class catching CP I’m worried. Being double vaccinated is supposed to be over 96% effective but it would be just his luck if he has got it.

How is he? @HesBoughtAFuckingHat

Cp spots are fairly distinctive with their clear heads, and spread fast but usually start on legs/torso hope he’s feeling better soon and you can get away

HesBoughtAFuckingHat · 20/12/2021 16:28

@catchingzzzeds he’s absolutely fine and we’re now on holiday. The two spots turned out to be little white heads which I got the joy of squeezing as well as the confirmation that it wasn’t CP.
