Refused booster vaccine as pregnant

BonnieBo · 17/12/2021 17:03

Went to get my booster jab yesterday, I am currently 10 weeks pregnant.

I was sent home without it, as I was told I should not have it until a minimum of 16 weeks.

Today I see in the papers pregnant women are classed as vulnerable and should be prioritised.

Have I been given old or entirely fabricated advice at the vaccine centre? Had been feeling slightly anxious about spending the festive period without it.

You are in a priority group, awful that they sent you away

Someone else had this issue either today or yesterday (I'm tired!). The vaccination centre were wrong. Can you ring your midwife to confirm?

There's another thread that's similar to this. They are making up rules to suit themselves

I’m now unable to book a new appointment as the NHS system thinks I’ve already had one.

Why are they giving out incorrect advice?

I’m now extremely worried about being able to get one before Christmas.

Ring 119 and speak to them ?

Starcaller · 17/12/2021 17:26

ShockThat's terrible advice! What a pain. Definitely complain as it's not current advice at all. I hope you can get another one booked ASAP.

ShirleyPhallus · 17/12/2021 17:26

That’s nuts, I got my no problem and was given a leaflet talking about the importance of getting them as a pregnant woman!

Thesechipsdontlie · 17/12/2021 17:28

Following as I am 7 weeks and have my booster booked for Xmas Eve....I really wanted to wait til 20 weeks just in case (scared as prev loss) but my gp has said I really should get it asap

BonnieBo · 17/12/2021 17:28

Just tried 119 and it’s all just automated messaging

Already rang them to complain and they not only didn’t seem to care, but also did not offer a new appointment.

Not sure what I can do without an appointment. Turn up and wait for hours? Not sure I fancy that given current rates in London.

:( sorry I thought you might be able to speak to someone

JuergenSchwarzwald · 17/12/2021 17:38

Go back to wherever you went, go the front of the queue, tell the marshal the situation and insist on speaking to somoene. Say you will not leave without your jab as there is no guidance telling pregnant women not to be vaccinated - in fact the opposite is the case.

If you have a printer, print this out and take it: www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/pregnancy-breastfeeding-fertility-and-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccination/ insist they read it and do not make things up. There is nothing to say you should wait until a certain point in your pregnancy.

Hopefully there will be someone different.

Otherwise, go to a different walk in centre and don't tell them you are pregnant.

ivykaty44 · 17/12/2021 17:40

Our local appointment place is quieter in the morning and takes walk ins

I’d turn up and get the vaccination If you find out you are pregnant after you have had one dose of the vaccine (between doses), you are strongly advised to have your second dose 8 weeks after your first dose. The vaccine is considered safe and effective at any stage of pregnancy and there’s no evidence that you need to delay vaccination until after the first 12 weeks.

Take this with you from the ROyal College of Midwifery

ivykaty44 · 17/12/2021 17:43

If anyone does want to refuse you the vaccination after being turned away from your appointment calmly ask their name for future reference

BonnieBo · 17/12/2021 17:47

@ivykaty44 unfortunately I am now not even eligible to book an appointment - the system thanks I’ve either missed one, or have already been done.

So I’m going to have to chance turning up and hoping it isn’t so busy they can’t see me.

Last thing I want given current covid situation London is being near loads of strangers.

Hen2018 · 17/12/2021 17:49

Have you got any walk in centres near you?

BonnieBo · 17/12/2021 17:54

@Hen2018 there is, but the queue has been two hours or so from reports.

I suppose I could turn up at any old centre and just hope for the best? Extremely annoying.

Smartiesandhugs · 17/12/2021 17:56

That’s awful. I’m only 6 weeks but had mine today. I had to read an extra load of paper so they knew I was happy to have it and then they would jab me. I went to a hospital site. Hope you can get it sorted as you can definitely have it xx

ivykaty44 · 17/12/2021 17:59

Tell them when you get there you were turned away, calmly explain that you want the vaccination and double checked, you’re finding this incredibly distressing and now through no fault of yours you’ve nit able to book another appointment

I’m sure they will see you if you’re pleasant but firm

MustLikeCats · 17/12/2021 18:12

If you are in north London, the Lordship Lane walk in clinic is really quick and they are doing a 24h opening starting at 6pm tonight. The queue is outside but short and people were being really respectful of space.
