I live opposite a primary school.

7:30 am and there's someone singing Leo Sayer outside my window Grin

Happy holidays, you made it. Smile

😂 you make me feel like dancing?

Nietzschethehiker · 17/12/2021 07:36

I do not blame them. In my professional role I work with about 30 school staff including teachers and I ran sessions yesterday and the feeling yesterday was very much "Just make it through" "we can do it" " we will make it"

At one point one of them put her head in her hands and took deep breaths as she left my sessiona and headed back into the fray

It's been a rough term !

Waxonwaxoff0 · 17/12/2021 07:42

My DS doesn't finish until the 23rd! Bloody late this year. Not back until the 10th Jan though.

Many schools due to be open until next Tuesday or weds are closing early due to outbreaks

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 17/12/2021 07:43

Absolutely. It's been a long and stressful term. We nearly closed with 23 staff and 100 children off with covid. Very disruptive with TAs moved between classes to cover. Children really unsettled with challenging behaviour. Massive expectations to catch them up with very limited resources especially staffing. Ofsted came. Loads of other bugs circulating so staff constantly unwell and struggling in. Thank God it's Friday

It certainly has. I'm so glad it's the last day.

EdnaMole · 17/12/2021 07:45

Got to keep going until next Tuesday- it’s brutal, everyone is on their knees..

Yes, DS's is still going for the moment. Had a letter yesterday about class Christmas parties next Wednesday! I think the head will keep school open unless there physically aren't enough staff.
ClintBartonsWife · 17/12/2021 08:04

Our school finished yesterday. Normally on Class Dojo the teachers post various messages wishing everyone a Merry Christmas on the last day of winter term but this year there was nothing. I expect they are all so shattered and relieved to be finished!

Before anyone jumps on me, I'm not complaining. I'm making the point that all the normal jolly stuff has been forgotten because staff are so relieved to have made it through! Ours are off for nearly three weeks so hopefully the staff will get a good long break.

LuluBlakey1 · 17/12/2021 08:09

DH is certainly delighted. He left about 6.45 am full of energy because:
a) He loves the last day of Christmas term - they do lots of activities for the students and he loves all of it.
b) He reckons he's got the best Christmas jumper amongst the staff - it was his dad's and has a 3D elf on the front with arms that go down his arms if you see what I mean. Its legs dangle.
c) They finish at 12.30pm so he will be home by 1.30pm. Our DC are not home until 3pm. Can have lunch in peace and quiet.

ToooOldForThis · 17/12/2021 08:11

I don't finish till Wednesday, say a prayer Grin

TallulahsCurse · 17/12/2021 09:58

No we're not all happy.
I've had an awful term and have a whole heap of work to do. I'm also very unwell. I am so worn down by this term that I have no energy left to enjoy my time off, I feel so done in.

So thanks for the generalisation but no we aren't and I speak for the colleagues I work with who all feel the same as me.

Really? I work in school too, lots of people singing today and if you're in need of a rest (I'm sure we all are) today is a good day.

Well surely you are glad it's the end of term?

I wish you lots of rest and respite and hopefully once the brutal Jan / Feb is out of the way, I hope things become more bearable.

QueenofLouisiana · 17/12/2021 10:03

Relieved rather than happy. Relieved that my more vulnerable colleagues avoided covid, relieved that those of us who did are all now fit to return to work.
DH and I have a bottle of Vouvray wine in the fridge- saved from our last French holiday. I suspect will will enjoy every sip tonight.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 17/12/2021 10:08

You’re right, school staff have done amazing.

This absolute nightmare of a situation with sickness and the constant worry of covid - my little boy couldn’t wait to get to school and see his teacher and his pals - to him everything is fine. Great fun in fact.

The school have done a fab job keeping it together and doing their best for the kids.

TallulahsCurse · 17/12/2021 10:12

I'm not sure why people think they have the right to tell me I should feel glad or happy. I don't. And nor do my colleagues.

We work in send. We are exhausted after working in school unrelentingly through the entire pandemic. Covid has ripped through our school multiple times leaving us chronically understaffed. We are so exhausted that we are all unwell and struggling and so no, I can't have a nice relaxing break I feel bloody awful. I have an absolutely massive workload for the holidays as we have been so understaffed that I've been teaching multiple classes and have had no time to do my own work for months.

Please don't tell me how I should feel.

Crunchymum · 17/12/2021 19:10

I don't understand what has offended you so much @TallulahsCurse ?

You've had a gruelling time during the pandemic and you now have a period of time when you won't be on your setting but you are not glad or happy about that in any way? Fair enough.

Not sure what else can be said really. Shock

Cuwins · 17/12/2021 19:18

At my school we were certainly all happy at 2pm when the last student left! Was a difficult week before that as the kids (special needs school) are all unsettled by things being out of routine.
But yes certainly celebrations at having got through a difficult term!

Bellsandsnow · 17/12/2021 19:23

Soo happy 😆😆😆😆

I’m really sorry you have had such a tough term. It’s been a shitshow it really has. And some schools have suffered so much more than others. I hope you manage a few days off and start to feel a bit better Flowers
itssquidstella · 17/12/2021 19:28

I finished last Friday! Back on the 4th, though. Has been so nice to unwind after a hectic term. Happy holidays to everyone who finished today! 🎅

TheCanyon · 17/12/2021 19:31

Our school doesn't finish up til the 23rd but they've seemingly been having a great week with non stop tunes blasting out. Though dd2s teacher says she's never playing snow is falling ever again Grin

Our situation has been pretty similar with a closed class but not an ofsted visit. They really are the icing on the cake in the middle of this Hmm. We are also so relieved to have made it to the end and thankfully the staff who are off with covid will be out of isolation for Xmas. As long as none of us test positive in the next few days. We are just all hoping and praying now that we get to go back as ‘normal’ as it can be next term. I know the kids were worried about that when they were leaving. It makes me so sad that what should be preparation for a lovely couple of weeks off is overshadowed by what’s to come in January. But for now I am going to live in the moment and enjoy some pre Christmas celebrations and have a much needed rest Smile
