Coughing constantly with a negative pcr test, runny nose, fever, sunken eyes etc ive never seen her this poorly. Doctor told me to give her calpol and vimto to hydrate....I'm just so fed up of rubbish advice and doctors not wanting to help...I feel like a bad mother myself too...I just want her to get better. She's been ill since Saturday and 2 weeks prior to that she was poorly too. How do you help your kids get better? She takes a multivitamin too

Ah poor thing. Are you giving nurofen - helps me and my dc a lot more than calpol. Especially at night so she can sleep well and rest. Mine prefer warm water when ill rather than cold.

There isn’t a lot more that can be done tbh, as much rest and water as possible, nourishing foods (chicken soup is a classic illness food!) and that’s all you can do. Hope she feels better soon.

How many days does it take to get better? Normally she's better in 3-4 days but this time it's been more than 5 days.

Pre covid tomes my children was sent to the childrens ward after 7 days of not eating or drinking much. I dont know if the gps would do that any more in covid times.

Well you can make chicken bone broth by simmering chicken bones for hours (I save chicken bones in my freezer till I have enough). Then to make soup I fry some onion/garlic/veg and pieces of chicken and add the broth to it.

Or, much easier, you can buy it Smile You can now buy bone broth in packets in the supermarket, it’s a bit expensive but very nourishing and saves the work of doing it yourself!

I am not saying chicken soup is a cure all by the way.

It’s just an example of nourishing but easy to eat food. Scrambled eggs is another good option.

Chicken soup is good. I make it by frying onions then putting in the chicken, ginger, garlic, turmeric, salt and other seasonings and then let it cook for a bit then add the water and let it boil for some time. It always got us back up when we were ill. Thank you. Yeah eggs too. I'm going to make my daughter rest for a few days. Hopefully she'll get better.

@IncessantNameChanger thanks. I don't think they would do that since they wouldn't check her until her pcr test came back. She had a pcr test when the symptoms started and now it's been 3 weeks since she's been coughing...want another one.

Anyone reading this. She got antibiotics after 3 appointments and after 3 doses constant cough magically disappeared.

This is how my 3 year old just was! We ended up in hospital with a temp of 40.1. Turned out to be water infection, chest infection and a viral infection. She had antibiotics as was finally better after 3 days of the antibiotics. I hope your little one is OK.

DSGR · 22/12/2021 07:57

Which just goes to show that sometimes people really do need antibiotics and it’s not all viral

faithfulbird20 · 22/12/2021 08:05

Thank you guys and yes sometimes kids do need antibiotics!
