Competitive Sneezing

DH could win the Olympic gold medal AND the Nobel prize for sneezing.

Lesser acts have won Tony awards.

Why does an otherwise perfect unicorn of a man insist on sneezing like that? It’s not like he gets a standing ovation from us. Cats scarper, glass rattles and every sneeze inches him closer to death by misadventure at the hands of myself and DD.

Please say I’m not alone?!

I HATE competitive sneezers. Particularly the ones who stop mid sentence, close their eyes, PUT A FINGER UP AS THOUGH TO SHUSH YOU FROM INTERRUPTING THEIR SNEEZE, sneeze in a dramatic fashion, then look at you in a self satisfied way

Vapeyvapevape · 16/12/2021 08:14

I love a good sneeze but am disappointed that I only ever sneeze twice in a row , people take the mickey because they are really little and quick .
My dd sneezes multiple times in a row and again they are quick and she makes a very small ‘Choo’ sound .

Apparently we don’t actually need to make a big Aaaaachoooo sound at all, so yanbu to bury your dh under the patio Grin

My sneezes are like this. I'm not putting it on. They are just really loud. If I try to muffle them I end up popping my ears and it's painful.

I feel for you though. I have scared people with mine Confused

I don’t shush people though Smile

My DP waves a hand in front of his face very dramatically, goes slack jawed and makes a kind of a 'huh huh huh' noise, then sneezes with a dramatic, overly loud 'ATCHOOOO'!!!
This literally wants to make me fucking stab him in the neck with a fork every time he does it
Drives me insane

greenlynx · 16/12/2021 08:32

I’m the same as @playdead. If I try to muffle them it’s painful in my ears. I sneeze a lot and loudly but without dramatic gestures.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/12/2021 09:04

My dh has always done it, and never stopped, despite having once terrified a very tiny new dd and made her cry by the explosive noise.

TBH I have given up telling him that you don’t have to ‘voice’ it, i.e. YELL! at the same time.

I put it down to a childhood, attention-seeking habit. So I blame his parents for not having put a stop to it, sharpish!

My dad’s whole body convulses when he sneezes - he bends at the waist, staggers a little and roars ATCHHHOOOO. It drives my mum up the wall Grin

It's not muffling, it's simply not shouting the words 'ah' 'choo' while sneezing. Makes a huge difference if you simply don't voice it, like the difference between 'tuh' and 'duh'. You could try whispering it, if you wanted!

DH didn't realise that shouting 'argh' isn't an essential part of vomiting. He was most impressed by my silent morning sickness. He'd always roared and woken the whole household up.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 16/12/2021 11:06

I bloody love a good sneeze, but there’s a limit isn’t there.

Loud sneezers make me irrationally angry. DH hid his atomic bomb sneezes until we were married, and now I’m on a hair pin trigger when he has a cold, waiting for the next foundation shaking AAAAATCHOOOOOO!

not as bad my dad though, who used to sneeze in the car WITHOUT COVERING HIS MOUTH!!!!! The rest of the family would be screaming at him and he’d earnestly claim that he doesn’t realise he’s about to sneeze, it just Hmm happens upon him

We have a woman at work that does big elongated exaggerated yawns in the canteen... tedious
