For Xmas thread?
I’ve gone for a Clarin’s hand cream and one week’s pay… what are you doing? Am I doing enough??

This is the first time I've had a cleaner. I was thinking a box of chocs and £25... not sure if that is enough but we don't spend more than £20-ish even on family presents.

Sexnotgender · 15/12/2021 21:11

I’m giving wine and probably chocolate and a weeks pay.

WasgijGods · 15/12/2021 21:13

We have 3 (3hr job done in 1hr) and only had them 6 weeks so I was only going to do a bottle of wine each.

underneaththeash · 15/12/2021 21:32

We have a team. John Lewis voucher and chocolates.

ImperialQueenofMoo · 15/12/2021 21:36

Is this a thing now? I pay my cleaner a ridiculous amount to do a job, she's not a friend. I wasn't intending to get anything.

Scrooge89 · 15/12/2021 22:18

Oh I’ve had her 3 years and always given a present - this year I’ve upped it to the clarins hand cream and I’ll give her an extra payment on top

mdh2020 · 15/12/2021 22:39

I give her an extra week’s money. We paid her 80% in furlough so I don’t think she can complain.

Themadcleaner · 15/12/2021 22:46

As a cleaner I can definitely say the gifts sound lovely. Kind generous clients, who are kind and reasonable all year round too, always get priority for flexibility, or extra help with other things and loyalty from their cleaner. Those that give nothing is fine, but don't expect your cleaner to go the extra mile, swop your day at a moments notice or feel very appreciated

AtiaoftheJulii · 15/12/2021 22:56

I appreciate my cleaner very much, but she won’t swap my day (because she is working all week which is fine) and I wouldn’t expect to have to bribe her for it. I don’t get presents from my boss, and my hourly rate is not a lot more than my cleaner’s Hmm

ImperialQueenofMoo · 17/12/2021 21:28

Swap days? It's my cleaner who is always asking to change days and times. I'm a very accommodating client even though it's not convenient.

Pythian · 17/12/2021 21:51

I just gave mine a panettone in a pretty box. I had no idea I was expected to give her double wages. I assume that all the times she's had to cancel because her kids were ill were lies and she was actually cleaning for someone else who does better Christmas presents?

In all seriousness, I pay my cleaner for a service, I appreciate what she does, and this is reflected in the fact that her hourly rate is considerably higher than mine. Am I really expected to provide bonuses and gratuities on top of that just to keep her "loyal"? Isn't that what the pay is for?

legosnowqueen · 17/12/2021 21:54

An extra week's pay (standard as far as I'm aware) & a Neom Christmas candle. She's great & has had a tough year.

SameToo · 17/12/2021 21:56

Double and a bit wage.

SlipperySlope99 · 17/12/2021 22:02

She’s coming Tuesday, so A card with her normal rate in, and we pay for the clean on that day - so a double payment - she always leaves£10 for our son as a Christmas present

Classicblunder · 17/12/2021 22:02

I give a box of chocolates or a bottle of fizz and a week's extra wages. I am really happy with my cleaner and want to retain her. She gives us something and also my kids birthday presents so it's not one way

Fallagain · 17/12/2021 22:14

I’m not sure this year. We have a newish cleaner and we paid her for 4 weeks when she was off due to a suddenly bereavement. I would normally tip a weeks cleaning cost but I think she would feel uncomfortable with this.

Crankley · 17/12/2021 22:14

I alw2ays give mine £50 and a small gift.

reluctantbrit · 17/12/2021 22:15

Box of chocolates and week's pay.

Scrooge89 · 17/12/2021 22:17

I’ve had my cleaner for almost 4 years… and she’s a single mum of 2 and works bloody hard. I’ve helped her out on swaps and she swaps when I need to swap often last minute. We’ll always have a quick chat each week and then I’ll let her get on.

OverByYer · 17/12/2021 22:18

I normally pay my cleaner £30pw, I gave her £50 for Xmas. I did pay her £20pw through lockdown though.

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 17/12/2021 22:29

Probably £50, ie a week’s pay. Once I got her hand cream (clarins like OP!) but may not have time this year.We paid her in full during covid lockdowns and our recent isolations.

RavingAnnie · 17/12/2021 22:39

£20 plus a box of chocs and a bottle of wine.

HappydaysArehere · 17/12/2021 22:54

This really made me laugh; especially the “upped it” part.
hopeishere · 17/12/2021 23:13

We have a team including the company owner. I gave them Prosecco, wine and chocs.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 18/12/2021 13:14

Frida Kahlo’s diary - a mix of beautiful pictures and writing. But I realise that wouldn’t suit everybody! She doesn’t eat chocolates and won’t take extra money.
