What do you do after work?

I’d love some inspiration on how to spend week days after work - so how do you spend yours?

For context, I had been doing a uni course alongside full time work for the past few years, this is now finished. One child left at home who is 17 and does his own thing. Have a partner but we do not live together and meet mostly at weekends. Aside from making dinner I’m not really sure what to do with myself Grin

So far I seem to be taking baths, looking at my phone and going to bed early. Not bored but could definitely be spending time better. What’s your typical routine or how would your ‘perfect’ look like?

Watch Netflix or Prime. Read a book. Occasionally play a game with friends. And I barely get enough free time to do that because I have DC to look after.

Open water swimming (in the dark currently), racket sport, yoga, local spa, dancing, local ladies social group……..
I hate staying in and watching TV

Kids clubs, make tea, do housework, listen to audiobooks doing all of the above.

Then, when DH gets home, watch a bit of telly, he does I read. Maybe have someone me wine.

And repeat.

Open water swimming in the dark! You are beyond brave!

Gym, shower, make dinner, TV, bed!

Not sure how the above means I have such late nights, I must faff around more than I thought!

Copasetic · 15/12/2021 21:02

Kids clubs, housework, tea and bed to watch tv! I don't think I'll be giving you any inspiration!

Pre covid DH and I pretty much took it in turns to go gym or whatever in the evenings, whilst the other stayed home with DS.

Now, due to work from home, we get to the gym during the day and so seem to spend every evening spinning in front of the tv. On lighter evenings I might go for a walk, but not at the moment.

I pretty much collapse in front of the TV. Sometimes read, occasionally meet with friends. I don't feel bad if I have evenings where I just chill on the sofa - in fact I'd hate to be busy every night!

Laundry, cleaning, sorting out meals, prepping things for the next day at work (without getting paid, so I don’t count it as work). Booking appointments, dealing with paperwork for said appointments, general admin stuff like renewing insurances, booking flights for work, organising calendar, schedule for private students I tutor, bits and bobs of freelance work. There is always something. Tonight I have to do emails for a university I used to work for.

Call or videocall family, chat to friends, watch lots of Netflix and TV.

Occasionally meet up with friends or colleagues for dinner, coffee or to see a show, wander around the Christmas markets…

Currently I also have Christmas cards and presents on my to do list. But for that I must first buy the cards and order stamps. Joy.

Walk or run most nights. I get bored just sitting doing nothing but watch the tv.

How about knitting, crocheting?

Champagneforeveryone · 16/12/2021 02:32

I work shifts (hence being awake now) so my "after work" is often very different.

Usually I would crack on with housework, go to the supermarket etc, which leaves my days off relatively free as actual days off. However I am often on my own as everyone else is in bed.

When the days are longer DH and I may arrange to meet part way home and walk the dogs together, or we may pop to the pub for a couple of pints.

Not hugely inspiring I'm afraid Grin

Thank you so much! Had been doing all the chores at weekends so will move those to weekdays. Then I can spend more time with family and friends at weekends. Used to enjoy running so will look to pick that up again and have some reading nights. Not so keen on knitting or crocheting but thank you for the suggestion!

I’m not keen on knitting/crocheting, but I thought I’d suggest!

My mum was an avid knitter, that click click through the evening!!
