We had our KS2 nativity in the church today. It brought much joy and an occasion for the children to rise to. It was filmed too for those preferring not to attend.

rightly or wrongly, I felt glad we'd gone ahead.

One school cancelled and opted to film like last year but I understand as theyve just come out of a huge outbreak. We'll get the recordings on Friday. They did go to a pantomime today though which was lovely for them!

My youngests preschool has opted to go ahead on Tuesday but has recorded it just in case. Just as well really as Boris announcements are coming in at a rate of knots and I can see it being cancelled.

Live performance with an audience, all parents masked and asked to show Covid pass. Live stream for those who wanted to stay at home

katienana · 15/12/2021 19:26

It was filmed, we haven't been sent the link yet.
I think it should have gone ahead with mitigations eg 2 performances, 1 adult per child per show etc. My ds in y1 only has one more year as they don't do it after y2.
We also have to wear masks in the playground.

Ours went ahead. Two tickets per family and two performances for both infants - in the hall and juniors in the church, all masked which was requested even before restrictions had changed. Juniors is more of a christingle rather than a nativity but it was lovely I'm glad the children were able to do their performances to an audience.

Recorded. bloody tenner for the DVD!

Cherrytart23 · 15/12/2021 19:32

Ours was today it was fantastic being able togo and watch.

Mittenmob · 15/12/2021 19:34

Ours was cancelled two days before and we got a bad video with awful sound instead. I am livid about it. There was no reason, very few covid cases, they'd already put covid safe measures in place and ticketed it so there would only be 30 parents in the large hall at any time. It was just to be seen to be doing something.

DigitalGhost · 15/12/2021 19:36

My DD reception nativity went ahead last week. Masks but no social distancing. They did two performances though to limit numbers.
Honestly no probs with the no social distancing though I stand next/chat to these people twice a day for drop off and pick up & attend school workshops with them alot.

RavenT · 15/12/2021 19:36

Cancelled. Ks2 carol concert. They will be recording some carols to put on class dojo, for those who are happy to consent to being filmed etc.
Relieved on two counts. First because of covid, second because I think we're in the minority as DS loathes and dreads these sorts of things. Grin

vickyc90 · 15/12/2021 19:36

Cancelled absolutely gutted as most of the class has already had it (and all have been exposed multiple times) so seemed a bit pointless

SilverGlassHare · 15/12/2021 19:37

We had a carol concert outside in class bubbles, and tbh while I’d have loved a traditional nativity like we had 2 years ago, this was lovely. They’d strung fairy lights all over the trees, had mince pies and mulled wine for the parents and biscuits and squash for the kids, Christmas trees decorated, staff dressed as elves etc - they’d made a huge effort to be able to do something for the kids and I think most parents really appreciated it.

rightsideoftheroad · 15/12/2021 19:37

Ours was a brief outside affair, was nice but would prefer a church hall and a seat in the warm

Whitewolf2 · 15/12/2021 20:14

We’re watching ours on zoom tomorrow. It was on zoom last year and they always planned for it to be again this year too… if it had been my choice I’d have much rather seen it in person, I went to the cinema today and don’t see the difference! Parents have not been allowed near the school since COVID began tho so they are very (over the top imo) cautious.

evilharpy · 15/12/2021 21:08

Ours went ahead in the school hall. There were three sessions with a limited number of tickets for each, up to two per household and you were only allowed to pick one session. It was well spaced out. Our head felt very strongly that the children had missed out on enough and had to be allowed to go ahead with their show and I totally agreed with her.

Parents were asked to take an LFT before attending and everyone wore masks.

My daughter's ballet school also went ahead with their show (they obviously couldn't last year). That was much less spaced out as it was in a packed (although small) theatre but I didn't hesitate for a minute about going. They had all worked incredibly hard on their routines and had a really wonderful time doing their dress rehearsals, all the excitement of getting dressed up in their lovely costumes and getting their hair done, being on a stage for the first time for many of them etc. I think they would have all been devastated if it had been cancelled.

bizboz · 15/12/2021 21:11

We had to cancel ours as we had a big outbreak at school. We filmed them instead.

ChocolateRiver · 15/12/2021 21:27

Pupils performed it ‘as live’ it was recorded and sent out to parents. School have Covid cases in pretty much every class and the numbers are rising so it was the sensible thing to do. They did their best in the circumstances. It was disappointing not to be able to see it live but I completely understand why they made the decision to film it instead.

WotgunShedding · 15/12/2021 21:34

We’ve just had one case of covid confirmed in our nursery staff (the first ever) so I’m a bit thrown about what to do as we were meant to do an in person nativity on Friday. Can’t decide what’s sensible and as I missed the briefing, don’t have the usual sense of doom that I probably should!

MajorCarolDanvers · 15/12/2021 21:34

Went ahead but no parents. Was recorded and it's getting emailed out.

Tbh my daughter enjoyed doing it snd I didn't have to sit through it.

So win win.

Quornflakegirl · 15/12/2021 21:35

Ours carried on, was in the village church with about 100 adults and 100 children. It was lovely for them to take part on normal school activities they have missed out on for 2 years.

Elpheba · 15/12/2021 21:35

Outdoor carol concert- masked and distanced- sang 4 songs & some year 2s did a reading. Nativity has been filmed. Lovely to see something at last, first time they’ve done anything for parents since last March 2020, but frustrated they couldn’t put measures in place to do the nativity in person. School is small enough that it could work and other small schools locally have had parents in over the term for various events (rural location- minimal cases throughout)

DeadButDelicious · 15/12/2021 21:36

Ours went ahead. No audience. All were filmed. Currently waiting to be sent a link so we can watch it.

Quornflakegirl · 15/12/2021 21:37

We’ve also only had 6 cases in our school of 130 children and 20 staff.

MsInsomniac · 15/12/2021 21:44

Had ours tonight. While it really was lovely to see ds and he was thrilled to be doing it after all the practising it really wasn’t safe. 90 kids, around 300 parents, school hall, seating crammed in, 2 hour show. Parents to wear masks (50% wore them on chin) - no lft requested beforehand, one set of doors open. I actually feel really worried we will have caught something from it.

MsInsomniac · 15/12/2021 21:45

Sorry I mean 200 parents / siblings / teachers

RaisinforBeing · 15/12/2021 21:47

Ours was videoed. I saw my child for all of 10 seconds. It’s not the same for the children to perform without an audience. Making a video or a film is very different to being on a stage. I’ve given up all hope with this school. God knows what January will bring.
