They're telling us it's really dangerous but nothing will change Confused
I don't see the point except for making everyone more stressed than they already are.

Given Boris started it off by saying there were over 780,000 cases today I switched off. If he couldn't get that basic figure correct what's the point. It's not the first time he's got his figures wrong and I doubt it will be the last 🤦‍♀️

Anyone care to tell me what was said about isolation for the unvaccinated?
My ex has today had a positive LF & will get a PCR tomorrow. From what I read online I don't need to isolate until contacted by TT is that still the case?

Newrunner29 · 15/12/2021 18:10

@MrsBerthaRochester

The numbers are complete nonsense. These are people in hospital WITH covid. They are there initially for other conditions. Its all scare mongering to distract from the removal of more and more rights. And the sheep are falling for it. Go out and party its no more harmful than the common cold for the vast majority! The nhs was screwed way before covid and is going to be privatised.
Anyone who says sheep and falling for it just annoys me im surprised u didnt say main stream media
gogohm · 15/12/2021 18:11

They are trying to scare everyone into vaccination. I'm triple vaxxed but very cynical about the current narrative.

Poetrypatty · 15/12/2021 18:13

makes people feel they still have agency, rather than being ordered what to do

Why bother having a press conference then in that case, they may as well not have had it. We already had the get a booster announcement a couple of days ago.

Those not worried will do their own thing, and those frightened or traumatised by the pandemic will just be feeling worse.

OP posts:
MrsBerthaRochester · 15/12/2021 18:15

Did someone suggest chris whittu was one of the good guys? This will be the guy pushing vaccination down our throats who just also happens to be affliated by the companies making said vaccines?
Im not an anti vaxxer, no tin foil hat, 5g consiparacy nonsense. But I do not believe we are being told the truth about the efficacy of this vaccine and I think far more people should be questioning how many boosters they will be willing to take.

Dreamstate · 15/12/2021 18:17

Now the media is reporting that nhs is being told to report covid numbers properly, people who got covid not come in for something and then tested positive for it.

So they admit the numbers have been skewed for all time time by at least 20%

And this press conference a complete waste of time and why I dont watch them. I saw the main bullet points on the news and thought so nothing new then

Angliski · 15/12/2021 19:06

Whilst avoiding a press conference on anything else- the nhs, the mandatisation of ID and tracking by stealth, oversea policy, Brexit etc etc.

What a twat he is.

tearinghairout · 15/12/2021 19:19

Yep. People were calling for his head on Sat/Sun after yet another party revelation, asking whether he would go immediately or in the New Year, then on Sunday night we get this panicked "get your booster NOW" and an unrealistic announcement of jabbing clinics and volunteers appearing from thin air. It is definitely a distraction tactic designed to make him look decisive and magisterial, IMO.

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 15/12/2021 19:44

scaring us....spreading fear then they will hit us with another lockdown. its all pre-work

but look at the cases for today, pretty much the highest in the world, but we can still hug strangers down the pub tonight if we want to

Dreamstate · 15/12/2021 20:02

Oh damn! Now I know why they did this bs press conference to bury the news MPs are getting a 2.7% payrise!!!

If there was no omicron crap this would be headline news!

Unbelieveable

Ironic seeing anti vaxx scaremongering on a thread where people dismiss highly experienced and qualified health experts. Apparently they're 'scarcemongering' about a disease that kills and disables many (and is likely lab escaped, possibly human engineered).

It's very common to invest in shares. Particularly as interest rates have for years been crap for savers. Pharmaceutical drugs are so frequently needed hence generally being a relatively safe bet.

Tealightsandd · 15/12/2021 20:18

Before anyone screams conspiracy theory. It's not known whether it's modified. It's quite possibly not. But it can't be completely ruled out at this stage.

Dr Alina Chan says there is also a risk that Covid-19 is an engineered virus

What’s that article say, I’m not paying for it, it’s behind a paywall

Tealightsandd · 15/12/2021 20:30

Sorry, here's one without a paywall.

It’s to ensure people are in the right frame of mind for when the announce a lockdown/other serious measures.

I’m not trying to scaremonger - they will have had behavioural scientists advise them on how to get people to comply/win the public over.

MasterGland · 15/12/2021 20:41

Goodness, I think some of you are overthinking this. The press conference was so that Chris Witty, who is trusted by the public, can deliver a rational explanation of the threat posed by Omicron. There is some truth in the fact that it is also certainly hoped that people will reduce social contact willingly, as a result. There would not be enough compliance for a state imposed lockdown now.

100problems · 15/12/2021 20:43

Aside from the fact he got the daily cases wrong by x 10, I am struggling to see what's wrong with the sentiment.

As others have said, people are choosing to self-regulate or risk Christmas, which is clearly their priority.

The systems that were overwhelmed on Monday are rallying, volunteers are signing up and the signs are that people are taking the need for a third jab seriously.

Everyone I know is willing to have one at whatever time of the day, night or Christmas Day if that's what's available and are LFTing daily.

The real world is very different to MN world.

Roundeartheratchriatmas · 15/12/2021 20:43

Mastergrand

I agree there isn’t - hence all the groundwork and explanations they will need to do plus figures of covid rates, death rates and hospital rates etc.

They’re giving people longer to absorb the seriousness of it ( and I believe it is and will be serious) so that when the time comes they will be more likely to comply.

Tealightsandd · 15/12/2021 20:44

You'd think two years on they'd have learned from past mistakes, i.e. too slow to implement mitigations. We all know that each time things have ended up worse (lives lost, health ruined, and economy damaged).

And you'd expect that by now most of the public also understands the benefits of proactive preventative action.

What a shame we let it get to this stage. We should never have got rid of the mask mandate, we also should've followed most of Europe (and many other countries around the world) with vaccine passes. And made more use of HEPA filters in crowded indoor spaces.

flippertyop · 15/12/2021 20:45

Actually it seems to me this is a good one to get. No worse than a cold and creates antibodies.

Thanks for the laugh

Tealightsandd · 15/12/2021 20:47

Wrong. Polls show strong public support. Perhaps because most people want to protect lives, health, and long-term economy - proactive action always tends to beat reactive panic.
