£10 per week feel good buy for 2022

Everyone's life is terrible at the moment, right? Mine is extremely shit and anxiety making too. I want to buy myself an inexpensive treat every Friday , to celebrate getting through another week of WFH (and possibly lockdown). Something I might not normally buy but you know, times are terrible.

Would love suggestions, more specific the better!

What I have bought so far:

(1) Uniqlo heat tech socks: really soft and fluffy
(2) Vogue: I love fashion mags but often can't justify the expense. Now I can!
(3) Lindt chocolate truffles
(4)Baileys: over budget but it is ok once in a while
(5) Cappucino in posh cafe

That's £520 a year.

Anyway.. Nice shower gel
Chocolate
A DVD
A takeaway
Nice burgers in the summer
Cider

JanisMoplin · 15/12/2021 13:03

Indeed it adds up over a year. I am hoping things may improve by spring!

Haha me too!

Do you wear make up?
Fancy a new mascara?
Nail varnish?

gogohm · 15/12/2021 13:14

I go every 3 weeks to get my nails done, it's £28 - 45 mins of pampering is worth every penny

Redcrayons · 15/12/2021 13:18

Fresh flowers. If you look in the yellow sticker bin you’ll get loads for £10

NMC2022 · 15/12/2021 13:19

Fresh flowers
Nice candle
Save it for 2/3 weeks and get a pedi or manicure
New mug

JanisMoplin · 15/12/2021 14:22

Lots of good ideas; thank you. I also found the "self care" page on Boots.:) I usually am not into self-care at all- it all seemed a waste of money and consumerist nonsense-but right now it seems like buying frivolous bath bombs is a good idea.

Ooh shower steamers are nice too

BestZebbie · 15/12/2021 14:36

If you can spare £10 a week, put it in a jar and buy a proper holiday! Enjoy looking at how full the jar is getting and make plans from a guidebook each week. Learn the language on Duolingo! Cook food from the area. etc.

TuftyMarmoset · 15/12/2021 16:23

the Sunday Times is a fairly cheap luxury - it’s nice to read the culture and style sections and reading the whole thing takes most of a Sunday!
Nice chocolates eg booja booja truffles 😋
New different types of tea?

devuskums · 15/12/2021 16:33

@JanisMoplin I have just discovered that if you are a member of your local UK library you can download an app called Libby and read magazines for free...I just checked and Vogue is one of them!

CrimbleCrumble1 · 15/12/2021 16:55

What a fab idea OP.
I love your choices so far.
Well done you.

This is altogether too sensible for me:) but am loving other suggestions. Esp the Libby app. I buy the Sunday Times anyway; reading it in the bath with a glass of Baileys is one of my weekend treats.

DH has got into this and today got me a Vanity Fair that I had already bought, bless him!

If you don't mind a rummage then you well find a random treat in a charity shop!

Dacquoise · 15/12/2021 18:10

Pick a few handmade chocolates from one of those posh chocolate shops. You could work your way through the whole selection over time.

Same with hand made cake from one of those posh bakeries.

southlondoner02 · 15/12/2021 18:28

I buy some flowers at the beginning of the week, just cheap ones like daffodils or tulips in the spring. Put them on my desk (well kitchen table) and helps see me through wfh

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/12/2021 18:47

Paperback? Love a browse in a bookshop.
Whittard mug
Glass of wine in a bar watching the world go by
Nice journal for gratitude or something (which is sposed to be a lift also)
Afternoon cinema, if you have somewhere that does cheaper tickets
M and S supper for no cook Friday
Sat or Sun cafe breakfast
Art gallery type ticket

Gradually build up items for a skin care routine if you don’t have one. I don’t think it needs to be expensive but my skin is way better if I do it
A cake you have a slice of all week at 4.30pm (freezable)
Fun knickers
Soft socks
Water bottle
Reusable portable coffee mug

MistySkiesAfterRain · 15/12/2021 19:24

I thoroughly enjoyed a box of mini perfumes from Perfume Society. They have sales on so sometimes £12/£15.

What else would I do...a lipstick, nail polish, scarf, Ebay or Vinted win.

PlinkPlankPlunk · 15/12/2021 19:29

Proper French macarons
Decent tights (M and S autograph velvet touch)
A basket of hyacinths
Venison pate (or vegetarian similar)
Colouring book on preferred theme

These are the treats I look for when I need a pick up

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 15/12/2021 19:56

I think this sounds a lovely idea.

A.new book and sitting in a cafe with a coffee reading are a treat here. I should do it more often.

Nice bottle of.wine and some snacks?

Houseplants?

Bubblty · 15/12/2021 20:08

Fancy chocolate spread

DukeofEarlGrey · 15/12/2021 20:13

I prefer small uplifting things daily to saving for bigger indulgences so have lots of ideas for this!
Nice versions of everyday drinks - fancy tea bags (I like Tea Pigs), a posh jar of coffee or coffee beans, hot chocolate flakes
Little things for your home office / workspace - hand cream, lip balm, etc.
Ditto nice notebook or desk diary and pens
Fresh flowers
Scented candles
A new book
Sushi delivered on a Friday eve
A glass of great wine

Malibuismysecrethome · 15/12/2021 20:38

M&S Roses the £3 or £6 bunch I just discovered them and love them

EssexLioness · 15/12/2021 20:55

I would use the money for treats that involve doing something, as I think that would have more of a feel good factor eg coffee and cake, cinema, a new book and some chocolates and some time to sit and read/ savour them, ice cream and walk in the park (prob best in warmer weather)! Maybe have a few cheaper treats and ‘save up’ for a back massage or pedicure.
Readly or Audible app subscription.
I think I would get a bit bored of buying actual things every week, but that’s just me. Although I am partial to a nice bunch of flowers

JanisMoplin · 16/12/2021 10:20

Thanks for more ideas. I do usually prefer experiences to things. But given the state of things, not going to the cinema or getting a massage any time soon!
