Tell me the good stories of recovering from covid.

We all have covid. I managed to have my booster the week before testing positive, DH tested positive the day his booster was booked.

He's on day 7 of isolation. He's breathless when moving about, has had a temp on and off. Feels rubbish. His cough is getting worse and there's now blood in his mucus when he coughs. We're waiting for a call back from 111, so I can't sleep incase we miss it but I've been up with the baby since 2:30ish. We have 2 older DC who are awake now too, I'm so tired.

3 years ago I called an ambulance for DH because he had pneumonia and couldn't breathe. He ended up on the resus ward, and hdu. Since then I have had health anxiety and its really bad this morning, I've been sick already for worrying about him. Please tell me all the times you/someone you loved had covid, felt awful but we're ok. No hospital stories. Thank you

My husband had COVID in Aug. He felt awful, slept for about a week etc etc. His sense of taste took maybe 3 months to come back. Hes absolutely fine now. I can hear him chasing the toddler around downstairs

ItsTheTreasure · 15/12/2021 06:48

Thank you. I'm glad he's ok now. I'm the one who's lost their sense of smell/taste here, but if that's the worst I get then I'm ok with it!

I had COVID in the first wave. It hit me pretty hard: fever of up to 40 degrees that lasted on and off (mostly on) for about two weeks. A week to ten days in I was getting out of bed roughly every 45 minutes to cough up mucus just to keep my lungs clear enough to sustain acceptable o2 levels. Streaks of blood in mucus most times I coughed. Chugging down asthma meds like they were going out of fashion. And then, it stopped. Just like that. I suppose it was around 12 days into the disease, the phlegm just dried up and though I was still a bit tired my lungs sorted themselves out. No lasting effects. Hope it will be the same for your DH. Do you have an oximeter to keep an eye on his o2 levels? It was very reassuring for me and the medical professionals I spoke to at the fine that I knew my o2 never dipped below 90 and was above 92 except right after coughing.

No we don't have one. I'll have a look on Amazon today. Glad you are feeling better now, 5 more days feels such a long time away, but we've been isolating since Dec 3rd anyway! Were the doctors concerned about the blood or was it just from straining when coughing?

Thanks for your replies

Dp and I had it in September, my 2 daughters 10 and 12 never caught it.

I was vaccinated and it was a mild flu, I was able to workout in my home gym around day 5/6. I made sure I went for a walk (around he garden / house)
Daily and had a to do list. I have had worse hangovers but I was crap.

Dp a very fit 39 year old had it bad, nearly hospitalised - his temp soared and his oxygen levels were low but around day 11 he turned the corner. Dp was not vaccinated

bjjgirl · 15/12/2021 07:12

We are both very fit and healthy

Bellafrenum · 15/12/2021 07:21

We both had it and were fine after a few days. Kids both had it and didn't notice. MIL had it, she has health conditions and is obese and 60yo. She ended up in hospital including a few days in ICU and it took 6 months to fully recover. Looking at her now you would never know.

LefttoherownDevizes · 15/12/2021 07:31

Wet all had Covid in March 20, DD started on day of first lockdown and within a week we all had it.

Was in bed need for days, seriously ill and then the weeks later still couldn't walk up stairs without stopping to rest part way up. Tried to go for a walk and DH had to come and pick me up as was way not well enough.

Hands were swollen for weeks after, randomly breathless and headaches but absolutely fine now, avoided hospital.

2 DCs have asthma and were CEV and it was'just' a bad cold for both.

I strongly recommend getting a SATS monitor for a tenner, when I was really breathless it helped me work out of I needed help or could talk myself out of it. It's amazing how much impact panicking can have on breathing.

I didn't bother with Drs/hospital as they were so busy back then I knew I wouldn't be admitted so there was no point.

Hope he (and you) are on the mend soon

StealthPolarBear · 15/12/2021 07:34

Hope he gets well soon.
I had it, felt grotty for a few days, then better but tired for about another week. Im generally healthy but obese and not particularly fit.

artquejtion · 15/12/2021 07:47

I had it 12 months ago, hit me hard and was diagnosed with long covid, no preexisting conditions and quite fit, I am totally back to normal now.

I second the suggestion to get an oximeter, it was very reassuring to keep an eye on my oxygen levels.

helenabonhamfarter · 15/12/2021 07:59

Day 9 here with Omicron for husband.
Shortness of breath better and no fevers.
No altered sense of taste of smell which is a relief.
Weirdly off food though but definitely better!

I'm triple jabbed (October) and have totally avoided it.

My mum has it now, she wasn’t too bad the first 6 days, raging temp but oxygen kept dropping, she has copd so they allowed it to drop to 85, when it dipped below that they called an ambulance and she was taken in, she has spent the last 6 days on full flow oxygen, and pumped full of antibiotics and anti virals and steroids. Amazingly they have said if she manages since yesterday morning without oxygen and without levels dropping she can go home later today. This is a obese, late sixties lady with copd and since being in, mrsa, pleurisy alongside the covid. My brother and I were almost certain she’d end up on a ventilator last weekend and it would kill her so we are amazed and thankful at how she has responded to treatment and appears to be turning a corner.

No, no one was worried about the blood. I get a lot of chest infections and I’ve coughed up blood a few times. The only time anyone’s seemed concerned was when it happened during pregnancy, and then it was just because of the remote possibility that it was because of a blood clot. So long as it’s bright red and just streaks of it in the phlegm it’s likeliest that it’s the exertion of coughing.
bollocksthemess · 15/12/2021 08:53

Husband and I both had it in March 20, was inevitable really as he was on a plane every few days up until the first lockdown, by which point we were already ill.
I couldn’t have a conversation stood up, had to sit down, tried to work (physical job) but was completely useless. Lost all sense of taste and smell. Was completely out of breath doing anything for about three weeks.
DH was delirious, couldn’t get out of bed for three days. In hindsight I should have got help for him but I was so ill myself I didn’t think. He lost his taste and smell too. He’s overweight, I’m super fit.
Anyway, we were both fine after a few weeks. I’m currently nearly 24 weeks pregnant with twins so it’s not done anything to our fertility either. Both jabbed now.

ItsTheTreasure · 15/12/2021 11:01

Thank you for all your replies. So glad everyone in these stories is ok, and they are reassuring me. He has no health conditions (except the previous pneumonia) but he is obese, as am I. This is a massive wake up call but that's a conversation for another day.

111 doctor is sending someone to check on him at some point today, and also asked if we have a oximeter. Will definitely be ordering one today. Any recommendations? The reviews on Amazon vary!

My sister has just recovered from Covid.
Age 43, very fit & slim except for Hashimoto's (underactive thyroid condition).
Double vaccinated, was due to have her booster.

She had several days of a very high temperature, a bad dry cough that is ongoing but getting less bad now, & had extreme fatigue for a few days once her temperature came down.
So was basically quite poorly.
She's now booked her booster for 28 days' time as recommended by drs.

Ironically I'm recovering from what was a bad cold that turned into a chest infection.. I thought I'd caught Covid off my sister but I had 2 negative PCR tests.
I had 5 days of antibiotics.. a bad chesty cough, felt chesty on breathing, high temperature, couldn't eat, one night I felt really panicked as my throat & chest were so tight & achy.
I'm now back at work but still chesty so hoping it doesn't get infected again.

@ItsTheTreasure I hope you all get well soon... @makingmiracles wishing your mum all the best

I had it way back at the start in March 2020.

I had a day in bed (Mothers Day) where I was having some terrible fever dreams. I dreamt my 3 year old son was next to me vomiting and I couldn't move to reach him.

I spent the next 3 weeks breathless and feeling rotten. I was still looking after the 3 and 1 year old and was breastfeeding the youngest. I remember taking them for a walk around deserted streets and only being able to make it a few hundred yards wheezing the whole time.

I got better though and I'm here today with no long covid or anything else.
