If you are an adult with sensory issues....

....where do you buy clothes please?
We are 95% sure my dad has ASD. He definitely has sensory issues around clothes. He will accordingly not buy new clothes, to the point where many of his clothes are more than 20y old, have holes in etc. He will sometimes ask for new t shirts, socks, PJs etc for Christmas but then returns them because "they don't hang right" or "the seams chafe" or something.

He only buys clothes from MnS but I have been wondering, are there any companies that make clothes especially for people with sensory issues?

He has asked for PJs for Xmas again, and I just know he won't be able to wear the stuff I found in Marks!

I don’t know how to do links so I hope it works. I am very fussy with pyjamas and how they feel, particularly the middle seem and the feeling on the ankles.

I wear these:
Women's Petite Pajama Sets Long Set Lounge Cotton Sleepwear Comfortable Striped Sleepwear Soft Pj Lounge Sets With Pockets amazon.co.uk/dp/B09CDVPX5S/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_g_S2WXXB0GC7PJ93WYQY0R]]

I hope that works. I know it says women's but I personally think they're unisex. I bought one pair and loved them so much I got a set in each colour. There's a promotion and a voucher making them cheaper.

Hope that helps!

I am autistic and I like things that are made out of cotton jersey fabric. I cut out labels. I can’t wear synthetics. My cousin (also autistic) prefers second hand clothes as they have been worn in.

I will sometimes cut out labels but has to be done carefully as anything left could be worse. I can’t deal with wool.

Thanks. Yes he only wears cotton and doesn't like seams. I have found some stuff in Marks but think the seams might be too chunky. Was thinking maybe these www.intimissimi.com/uk/product/long-sleeve_stretch_supima_cotton_top-CLU12A.html?dwvar_CLU12A_Z_COL_INTU=800&utm_source=google_shopping&utm_medium=organic&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI5b-f643k9AIVWODtCh1LCwKpEAQYEyABEgKS1_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

The important thing for me with clothes presents is that they are with packaging and can be returned. Often I love the look of the garment but I know when putting it on that I won’t cope.

There are sensory clothing specialists that do items for adults. I don’t have personal experience of these companies, but here are some:

www.sensorysmart.co.uk/underwear--baselayers-66-c.asp

www.spectrasensoryclothing.co.uk/product/jogging-bottoms/

jettproof.co.uk/collections/mens-range

M&S do sensory socks for all ages. They have a sensory range for kids. It might be worth suggesting to them that they expand this into an adult range?

Following with interest as I have hardly any clothes and it's been getting me down as I know how I must look only wearing the same 4 outfits 😳

I cut the labels out of clothes and stick to soft stretchy jersey type fabrics. I also wear high waisted compression leggings underneath my clothes. You can get compression tops and bottoms that can be worn underneath clothes which help.

tigerbread11 · 14/12/2021 21:23

Also if I find things I like then I buy multiple of them

ghislaine · 14/12/2021 21:50

How about these for pyjamas: eczemaclothing.com/collections/men

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 14/12/2021 22:51

Oooh @ghislaine I like that! Might give that a go! Thanks
