Make sure you take off the inside wrap that’s almost invisible under the main plastic wrap, on many gammons.
It’s very easy to forget and very difficult to see.

I bet it catches many people out.

I do mine in the slow cooker with coke then roast for 30 mins after covering in honey and mustard. Yummy.

I do mine in an Instant Pot!
Once cooked, remove it, remove excess fat, cut into it like a hassellback potato, about a third of the way down, drench in mustard maple glaze and in the oven for 20 mins.

Cover with cider and put it in the slow cooker for 6 hours.

Point out how badly Brexit is going, and how many more non-white people are coming over here since, and let them stew in their own juices until they're bright red...

@Henryhoover12

Thanks so much for all the messages guys. I tried boiling it once and it went very rubbery/gummy. Then when I roast it dries out 😬
Soak it in cold water overnight Then she met according to weight! I cook mine in apple and cranberry juice

Leave to cool in the juice so no need to boil the death out of it!

When ready to glaze
Cut off the rind and glaze with brown sugar, mixed with
Whatever spices you like and a bit of ginger jam or any jam

15/20 mins to glaze
Don't cook it too long your just glazing the fat on top

Ina large pan add boiling water and bring back to the boil. Drain and add fresh boiling water. Cook field 1/2 hour less than necessary cooking time. Remove from water and take off the skin, but leave some fat. Score diamond pattern with a knife. Using long thin knife, stab in a few places and spear through with rosemary sprigs. Brush with maple syrup. Cook in oven for the remaining half hour, removing to brush with maple syrup again half way through. Delicious.

Boil for a couple of hours in ginger ale.
The smother in melted marmalade then whacked in the oven for half an hour.
Be sure to line your roasting dish with tin foil first.

Why are people removing fat? It's the best bit! I do mine in the instant pot (boil first for 5 mins to remove saltiness). Then cut off the rind (carefully to retain as much fat as possible!) and score the fat. For the glaze I generally use honey and dijon mustard but at xmas I do a cherry jam, red wine vinegar and smoked paprika one which is delicious.

Oldraver · 15/12/2021 15:45

I do the same as others boil or slow cooker then take the rind off

Though I use maple syrup and mustard...it's devine

whywouldntyou · 15/12/2021 16:02

@Daftasabroom

Soak in brine overnight or up to a couple of days. Bring to boil from to reduce salt content. Cover and slow roast 4 to 6 hours at 100C
Holy shot what? I soak it to remove the salt, not add more! 🤢

Nigella's ham in cherry coke (with cherry glaze) is amazing, although I do it for 8 hours in the slow cooker because it's less messy.

You can do the slow cooker part one day, put it in the fridge overnight covered in the liquid, then just do the glazing part in the oven the next day
