Do you feel less interested in Christmas with Omicron going on?

I just can't get in the mood at all - too worried things will be closed down again soon and about what January will look like. Anyone else?

No but I really want to have the indoor party planned NYE for a birthday

MarshaBradyo · 14/12/2021 18:35

I mean I still feel Christmassy

But hopeful we don’t get NS style restrictions

I am normally Mrs Christmas but I am just not feeling it at all this year. Mostly unrelated to covid (as despite what Bo Jo says other shit can and still does happen in life)
More than anything I just feel tired....every day is the same old slog and Christmas isn't seemingly the light at the end of the tunnel like it normally is for me.

1hamwich4 · 14/12/2021 19:36

It feels like such a risk to invest any time, money or emotional effort into Christmas plans when things look so uncertain.

I’d rather chuck stuff together at the last minute and do without things that can’t be sorted than have everything cancelled again.

So true

Also the tiredness like GlamorousHeifer Sorry that you've had other stress to go through.

I think with peoples batteries feeling nearly empty the extra work of Christmas combined with all the uncertainty isn't helping.

I think a request to limit to three families indoors

Not sure if dates

MarshaBradyo · 14/12/2021 21:38

In Scotland that is

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 14/12/2021 21:38

No.

I'm going to Thailand on Sunday and I'm so fucking anxious it's not worth the stress.

No tree or decks up either. I just want Xmas written off and bring on spring.

CandyCaneLane0 · 14/12/2021 21:52

I can't get into it at all this year, I'm just dreading the schools being shut in January again

Poetrypatty · 14/12/2021 22:53

Oh yes I see MarshaBradyo I think she said not Christmas Day but in the lead up. But everything seems up in the air anyway doesn't it and that doesn't help- it could have changed by next week.

Hope you end up having a nice holiday Borisjohnsonshairbrush

That's one of the main things on my mind too. I can't face the possibility of another lockdown or partial lockdown in January. It overshadows any enjoyment of Christmas.

Nope, can’t wait to be all up in with my family, LFT daily and hug the living crap out of them. Drink, eat, play games and just happy.
That and work.

Sparklingbrook · 14/12/2021 23:00

I would quite happily fast forward to New Year's Day TBH. Bit to do with Covid, bit to do with not really enjoying Christmas that much.

I very much feel like I'm going through the motions re Christmas. I am working right up until Christmas Eve and back in on 27/12. The rest of the household have from 23 Dec to 3rd Jan off.

GreenClock · 14/12/2021 23:11

I’m not worried for myself but I’m concerned about the impact of any restrictions on hospitality, hairdressers etc. I know how hard small business owners work. My hairdresser is desperately worried and is feeling the burden of being an employer, responsible for five people’s livelihoods.

Remote schooling would be manageable for us but I know it takes its toll on others, with parents getting spread thin and children feeling bored and frustrated. This is another thing playing on my mind. And there is the question of abuse not being noticed too.

So….I’m looking forward to Christmas but mindful that there is a great deal of uncertainty out there and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for businesses and schools.

Poetrypatty · 14/12/2021 23:16

Same. Things must be tricky for hospitality, especially with the uncertainty and it must be relentless the pressure of all these constant changes.

We don’t really have many close family so not too worried about that. I can’t wait for a holiday as I’m utterly exhausted.

Don’t think I can cope with the schools shutting again though as the school I work in won’t shut and I will be working full time as normal whilst my DH will be at home WFH whilst trying to home school our DC two of which are in important exam years as they were last year no doubt affected by covid. The schools being shut doubled my work as I had children in front of me to teach and had to provide work for those at home too.

First night out in about 6 months has been cancelled which I’m annoyed about. I’m not allowed to mix with 3 different households yet everyday I’m allowed to go and mix with more than 11 in a tiny room for hours at a time. I have to wear a mask to Tesco but not to a nightclub or concert.

I hope so too. I will be leaving a list each day. Grin It'll be horrible poking about in the dark getting ready for work and trying not to wake the long Christmas holiday people. Angry
hivemindneeded · 14/12/2021 23:28

Nope. I feel even more invested in getting my loved ones to my house before any chuffing lockdown so we can all have fun.

RaininSummer · 14/12/2021 23:31

Really looking forward to it. Time off work and hopefully see my adult children and grandchildren.

MrsBerthaRochester · 14/12/2021 23:37

I am not worried about covid because I simply dont believe the fear mongering for what is a mild illness for the vast majority.
The last year has been shit for myself and kids so Im determined we are going to have a good xmas. I am pissed off at a couple of planned things being cancelled due to positive tests and paranoia. In people who are vaccinated and already had covid.
I suspect we will all be in lockdown come january as to many people will just sheepishly go along with it. So I will enjoy this last hurrah.
Remember last xmas how vaccines were our way out of it and there would be no more lockdowns.....

nancy75 · 15/12/2021 13:18

@nancy75

I’ve definitely cut back on what we’re doing between now & Christmas. I don’t want to heave to isolate & miss Christmas with my parents again this year
Well that didn’t work out so well - DH tested positive this morning. He has been banished to the bedroom, while Dd & I are hiding from him downstairs hoping not to catch it. 😩
girlmom21 · 15/12/2021 13:50

Oh bloody hell @nancy75 I've got everything crossed for you!

MarmitesMyMate · 15/12/2021 14:37

Nope done with worrying. I'll have my Xmas as I normally would. I feel generally run down which makes me feel a bit meh about Xmas but not due to anything covid related.

Also my local papers fb page the other day had a survey along the lines of 'if they make restrictions would you cancel plans'.
At that time there was 478 comments.. I scrolled for ages before I saw a 'yes'
Everyone else was 'no' won't be told what to do anymore /no way not if boris chums can break rules etc.

If they tried restrictions it won't work..
