Passport- urgent appointment help!

FluffyCushion123 · 14/12/2021 08:03

I’m going to admit to micro managing my 19 yo DD1. She’s most likely got ADHD and can be super disorganised… so I have booked and paid for an urgent renewal appointment tomorrow but the confirmation email has gone to her, obviously.

I need to check we have everything she needs. Is it just:

  • ordinary passport form from post office ( is there only one type??)
-old passport
  • 2 photos
Anything else?

Also can i double check that ‘renewal’ is the correct option to have selected when it’s the first adult passport??

TIA

Do the photos need countersigning?

FluffyCushion123 · 14/12/2021 08:14

How would I know if they do @Aroundtheworldin80moves? Thought that was only for tiny children…

She does look very different in the passport as it was taken aged 15 and she’s now nearly 20 . However , thinking about it it’s the same photo as her driving license so assume not.

Wouldn't it say on the form about signing passport photos?

ManchesterTartwithCustard · 14/12/2021 08:20

As a previous poster said, gor an sdult passport the photos will need signing by a witness. Have you read the explanatory notes that accompany the application form? That should give you all the information you need.

FluffyCushion123 · 14/12/2021 08:29

I’ve just checked the form and it says that countersignature is only needed if they can’t be recognised from the old photo. I think she’ll be okay especially as driving licence has same picture which surely wouldn’t have been allowed if she looked too childlike in it…

My son didn't need a counter-signature when he got his first adult passport because it was a "renewal" from a child's passport. I think. Anyway he didn't need it.

Janek · 14/12/2021 08:59

If you can easily get them countersigned, I would be tempted to do it.

FluffyCushion123 · 14/12/2021 09:26

@Janek sadly we can’t as DD lives out of town so logistics wouldn’t work

Hi @FluffyCushion123 we did DD also 19 with ADHD 2 months ago, I got the form and photo signed just as a precaution and took her birth certificate just in case

As you have her driving licence you should be fine, it was literally less than 2 minutes at the desk and the passport arrived 3 days later

Just be aware they only let one person in as an accompanying adult and search your bags on entry

My 18 year old DS has just had his approved.
I done it as a renewal even though went from a child to an adult.
I wasn't sure if I had to do anything extra but went through OK.

No they don't. It's just a renewal Only need a countersignature if they couldn't be recognised from the old passport photo
FluffyCushion123 · 15/12/2021 07:33

We’ve no time to counter sign so she’s off today- hoping for the best. Anyway the photographer who did her pics thought she was recognisable still (aged 15 then, now 19) so we’ll see. Will report back!

All done- no countersignature needed. Phew!
