Maths puzzle games

DC, 6, absolutely loves maths and puzzles, and I'm looking for something that brings them together. They're already doing simple multiplication and Number Blocks is one of their favourite programmes, to give an idea of level.

I'm trying to find something online but not being very inspired with my googling or sites, and keep just being shown Sudoku things, or very very simple puzzles, neither of which is right.

Anyone know good websites for this sort of thing, or particular puzzles that might suit?

Just a bump for daytime posters!

The Orchard Games are good - they have a multiplication one which is super hero themed. They have an addition/subtraction one called Mammoth Maths (with some harder and some easier sums)

www.happypuzzle.co.uk/ have a look on here, lots of choices.

Doubleraspberry · 14/12/2021 11:07

We've already got lots of Orchard ones - I'll check the superhero one as she's obsessed with times tables at the moment.

I'm looking for a website that sells things! Not a website to use. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Happy Puzzle looks great! Thank you.

www.brightminds.co.uk/ is another good website!

Doubleraspberry · 14/12/2021 11:30

Oh, thank you. I am bookmarking all over. I ran rampant in Happy Minds and got

My son has a book called ‘maths games For clever kids’. It might be a bit advanced or there might be some puzzles she can do. Once you know which kind she likes you can find more on the internet.

Doubleraspberry · 14/12/2021 13:10

We've actually got that. She can do some of it and enjoyed it.

There’s a good Usborne maths puzzles pad.

If you want to pay for a subscription (or even just one month and download a load) Twinkl has some good activities that are things like solving a murder or an escape room via maths puzzles.

Doubleraspberry · 14/12/2021 13:15

Ah, we had free Twinkl for the start of lockdown but that was quite a while ago. I'll have another look, and also the Usborne which sounds like a good stocking filler.

Ds loved the Slice Fractions app when he was younger. Great fun if you are OK with the screen time.

SingToTheSleigh · 14/12/2021 13:32

The Smart Games brand is good for puzzle games too :)

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 14/12/2021 13:33

Maybe he'd enjoy some alternative 'mathsy ' activities - like learning to code with Scratch or play with 3D design using Tinkercad.

Stompythedinosaur · 14/12/2021 13:34

Dragon box is excellent. Teaches algebra without dc noticing.

Lightbot is another favourite - not exactly maths as in sums, but coding and logic.

WombatStewForTea · 14/12/2021 13:36

NRich website is where schools get lots of problems from. You can search by age but they tend to be challenging so maybe age down

SingToTheSleigh · 14/12/2021 13:37

I agree dragonbox is brilliant!

SingToTheSleigh · 14/12/2021 13:38

Intrigued by tinkercad out - just had a look on the website, is it really free?! (As opposed to “free” with hidden costs!)

2319inprogress · 14/12/2021 13:42

This puzzle is enjoyed by my 5 all the way up to the adults.

Times square is a game of rolling dice & combining the numbers to produce the right number to defeat the zombies Grin

Much bigger investment but Turing Tumble is maths & programming without a computer (& brilliant)

My SiL has bought her something from there apparently. Looking forward to finding out what it is!

Very excited by good suggestions for apps. Main Christmas present is a Kindle Fire so I can load it up with them ready to go.

DCs favourite at that age was some maths dice from Flying Tiger. Basically number dice and maths symbol dice. Roll as many as you want and answer the sum.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/12/2021 14:40

Flying tiger is so great! I'm sad they closed the ones near me.

Doubleraspberry · 14/12/2021 15:04

There is one near me though!
