Fed up of constant problems with my teeth, contemplating dentures...

Any advice? I wasn't brought up to have good oral hygiene and my teeth have suffered greatly Xmas Sad I have several fillings, probably need more, a few broken teeth. Thankfully all the filled and broken ones are hidden away at the back, the front ones seem to be okay for now. I also have GORD so I'm not sure if the acid reflux has exacerbated the problems with my teeth. On the bottom left of my jaw, I only have 4 teeth (I've had to have all the molars pulled over the years) so I mainly chew on the right side of my mouth. But now, the right sides of my jaw have been hurting for the last couple of weeks, both top and bottom Xmas Sad I haven't been to the dentist yet, just making do with painkillers if it gets bad. Partly because I dread going in case I need even more teeth out, and mainly because it's Christmas next week and I can't really afford it at the moment.

I've been seriously thinking about asking the dentist about having all the damn things pulled out and just having a full set of dentures instead. Is that crazy? Any advice? There's no way we can afford for me to do something drastic like a full set of implants so I have to make do with what they can offer on NHS price banding.

I had a full set when I was 25. Never regretted it

People will tell you to hang on to your teeth as long as possible. But I currently have a top denture and tbh I don’t even think about it. It causes me no problems at all and no one else knows. The bottom will get done at some point too. I have heard that takes a little longer to get used to. For me it was worth it. I had terrible problems with my teeth and gums, for various reasons. I remember what you describe, having to eat in certain ways etc. It was a pain. Oh and the toothaches I used to get. Horrendous. I don’t regret it. I think it’s a bit of a shame, but it is what it is. I do look and feel better now.

@Buzzer3555 I'm only 30 so not much older! How was it getting used to them? Did you find much was different, like eating and speaking etc?

I have a top ones and its the best thing I ever did re teeth. (Once Id got over the “it’d the beginning of the end and physically its downhill all the way till death” thoughts - I’m retired). To think I’ll never again have agonising pain with that wretched tooth. As someone said, no-one notices. Go for it .

ok firstly you want to keep as many teeth as you can especially at such a young age as when you lose teeth you then start to lose bone rapidly which leads to a very aged look when people have lost teeth and surrounding facial definition. even if it is NHS treatment you will be able to have your teeth stabilised and any immediate issues dealt with. the best thing to do is book a check up appointment so someone can go through your treatment options (am a dentist)

I would like to have some advice on dentures. I have had the teeth patched up over the years but have now arrived at the point that some drastic action is needed. All need to come out and I've had my options explained to me.Very expensive.Dentures are the cheapest option. I could live with the the not eating nuts and crispy bits but is there anything else I need to consider? Is there a downside? Are they difficult to get used to?Do they look falsies?? Advice anyone??

I am in my late fifties and had a partial denture fitted this year, I literally hate it more than anything. Am pondering how to raise enough money for implants
Any opportunity it is out and in my my pocket, i would rather eat with out it than with and my mouth is permanently sore. No recommendations from me c

my friend has now got a full set , shes in her early forties , her teeth were just crumbling , she said she couldnt eat her dinner without a sodding bit of a tooth winding up being crunched on and it was putting her off eating , they would have all had to come out eventually anyway , but her dentist agreed to do them all under sedation and fit the plates for her , shes great now , well happy and says she feels so much better , as she can smile again now without all the gaps from the missing ones on show

Has anyone else got information about dentures when relatively young? I am 39 and it is a possibility. Thank you
