Would your 9 year old enjoy Its a Wonderful Life?

I have never seen it but our local cinema is showing it on Christmas Eve. I was thinking it would be a nice thing to do but I don’t want to risk him being bored and fidgety.

While I think the whole experience will also add to it, rather than watching it at home on a DVD, I would also like to hear others opinions…

Thanks!

No. It's a lovely, charming film, always makes me cry, but I'm doubtful most 9 year olds would enjoy, although probably depends what sort of films said 9 year old is used to watching.

SingingSands · 13/12/2021 11:04

No, I tried my kids with it around that age and they just weren't interested. It's not relatable for kids really. I didn't really get it myself until I was a parent.

OompaLumpaLabrador · 13/12/2021 11:04

Almost certainly not. I'm sure some would though. It's a lovely film and I used to watch it every year. Until I bred the sort of children who are unmoved by any sort of Christmas sentimentality and now we watch Star Wars on Christmas Eve. Bah!

DillDanding · 13/12/2021 11:06

No. It’s too long for one thing and I would think most 9 year olds would find it dull.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 13/12/2021 11:10

I enjoyed it as a 9 year old. But I was probably rather an unusual 9 year old.

C0nn1e · 13/12/2021 11:43

No he would run a mile

Stompythedinosaur · 13/12/2021 11:49

Neither of my dc would have.

Thethreecs · 13/12/2021 11:53

I know this is a much loved film and anyone I know absolutely adores it, many who watch it every Christmas eve, but I've seen it a good times and each time I just feel so sad when he contemplates suicide. Personally I don't think it's a feel good film, even though it does have a happy ending.

BonnyEm · 13/12/2021 11:55

No

Bagelsandbrie · 13/12/2021 11:57

Hell no. My mum used to make me watch it every Christmas as a child because it was her favourite film and I HATED it. It’s so miserable and serious!

Snowisfallinghere · 13/12/2021 12:02

I watched it with my mum at an independent cinema when I was about 14 or 15, I think this was a good age as you understand the emotional aspect of it a bit better, and have a better appreciation for old vintage things, compared to a 9 year old! Although certainly I know some 9 year olds are very into old fashioned things.

EachandEveryone · 13/12/2021 12:04

No stick to Home Alone. I havent even managed to sit through it myself.

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 13/12/2021 12:22

My 8 year old DS did like it, but didn't love it and some of the references and ideas went a bit past him to be honest. Also there is kissing in it and apparently that is completely yuck Grin

MrsBerthaRochester · 13/12/2021 12:29

No. I try to get my kids to watch it every year but they just dont get it. I watched it yesterday for the umpteenth time and will probably watch it at least twice more before xmas!

JemimaPyjamas · 13/12/2021 14:09

Tickets are booked but, as it’s only £5 (and supporting our lovely independent cinema) DH can collect him if needs be. I’m not sure if he’ll like it, or understand it, but he’d certainly get into the atmosphere which will certainly help.

Nope, she struggled enough to make it through Lampoons Christmas vacation.

GreenClock · 13/12/2021 16:08

No, I think that it’s a film for teens and adults.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/12/2021 16:28

No. Even as an adult, I think it's far too long and a bit boring. You'd be better off watching something at home, with hot chocolate and treats to make it feel more like an event.

BingBongToTheMoon · 13/12/2021 17:39

My 6 year old loves it.

Holothane · 13/12/2021 17:40

It just doesn’t do it for me sorry but it doesn’t.

billy1966 · 13/12/2021 17:51

Not sure, but I just adore it on Christmas day.

CarButtonCloth · 13/12/2021 18:55

No. Stick to Arthur Christmas or Nativity.
