Stuck for ideas for my mum. She's great, really helps me and my siblings, and others. She has everything she wants/needs. And far more money than me .

Shes suggested a few things, but they really are just token gifts.

Before I had my children, we'd go out shopping, for coffee, days out etc. It's not something we get to do at all really now. But I have got an extra day off each week now . So I'm thinking of doing a kind of voucher gift, one thing a month. Go for a coffee, go for a nice walk together, lunch out, cinema etc. But I don't know if it's really crap.

Mum is 74, young for her age.

Ice cream from a van
Visit to a local garden
Visit to a local stately home
Buy bulbs at garden centre then plant them
Do something crafty eg. Learn crochet?

picnic?
trip to London (presuming you're not already there/it's within travelling distance)
winter lights/kew gardens/illuminations type place next Christmas?
outdoor lido/spa pool if she likes swimming in the summer
summer fete type thing if they go ahead

Make sure you take a picture at each one, then you can make one of those calendars online (can make really smart looking ones) = a present sorted for next year!

Some great ideas thank you.

She does have a garden, but it's quite small, she's a keen gardener and mire likely to be helping me in mine! A trip to a garden is a good idea though.

Home facial or nails if she likes that type of thing. You could make it special by having some fizz as well. I would love to just spend time with my daughter doing a girly afternoon

My mum loved simular - a day out shopping with £50 to spend. Also a home massage, haircut and nails done (she is in a wheel chair).

Sounds like an awesome present and something that will bring her joy all year round.

Fwiw I just ordered my dh a new kitchen bin as a joke present, he's been moaning that the kids a bit broken and keeps falling in.

I just cried at this (over reaction on my part). It’s a wonderful gift. I wish so much I could give this to my mum. She doesn’t like me or want to spend time with me so it would be a rubbish gift for her…but if my kids have that to me I’d be over the moon.

How about an adventure type event. My mum. Is 75 and we recently got her on a Segway tour. It was brilliant and something you could do and laugh about together.

meadowbleu · 11/12/2021 21:10

That's lovely OP. If she has a garden I'd buy a plant for it and tie homemade labels to branches with the promises on them. If she doesn't you could get a stylish house plant. That way it's a gift for now and things to come.
