Ear piercing as an adult

wombatsandstuff · 11/12/2021 16:22

Anyone had their ears pierced as an adult?

I’m 26 but never had my ears pierced, I just never fancied it and I used to swim a lot as a child so was never practical. But I’m quite tempted by it now. I’m thinking leave it a month and see if I still want it and if I do go for it. If I was to get it done I’d get it done at a good local tattoo/piercing place.

I’m just looking for any advice and experience.

Thanks.

Go to a good piercing shop and get it done, it's not really a big deal!

ZealAndArdour · 11/12/2021 16:37

I don’t know what advice or experience to tell you about. I just went to the tattoo shop for it, asked for it to be done, the girl sat me down, marked the dots on my ears and did it. It made my eyes water but after that it was fine and I forgot about it.

Ive got three earrings in each ear.

I had second earlobe piercings two months ago. It was much less painful that the first ones in my teens (the process has improved). You have to wait 6 weeks before you can change the earrings, thereafter the healing time depends on your body's own healing time I think. Mine are still a little tender (8 weeks). I'm 51 Grin

Definitely go to a piercing studio, or tattoo studio with qualified piercers. Don't go to Claire's or anything.
Piercers will use needles which is better for your skin and healing. Lobes are a quick easy piercing Smile

GlumyGloomer · 11/12/2021 16:47

Can I ask why you want it done now? I'm curious as I and a childhood friend weren't allowed it as kids, and neither of us got it done as adults.
Agree though you don't have to over think it. It does heal up if you change your mind.

MeltedButter · 11/12/2021 16:51

Make sure you get it done with a needle rather than a gun. Make sure you follow the aftercare

I’m not too sure. I just fancy it. Not sure if it’s just me wanting it cos I’m bored or whether I actually want it, hence leaving it a month.

I agree , go to a proper piercer and have it done with a needle. I have four piercings in one ear and two in the other. Keep it clean, try not to keep touching the fresh piercing, you will be fine .

DrWankincense · 11/12/2021 17:15

I've had 2 cartilage piercings in the past year and I'm in my 40s. I will probably get more I once they both are fully healed.
IISAy do it. If you decide then you don't like them you can always take them out .

girlmom21 · 11/12/2021 17:17

I've got two cartilage piercings I've got done as an adult 'just because'.

If you want them done just go, if you don't like them take them out.

It won't hurt much. They're really quick.

nettersrunboulder86 · 11/12/2021 17:23

I got my ears pierced at 25. I now have second lobe piercings, a tragus and my conch pierced. As others have said use a proper piercer who used a needle. Also you can get some really lovely earrings etc these days. I'd say go for it!

EBearhug · 11/12/2021 17:29

I got mine done as a 30th birthday present to myself. My mother refused when I was a child, and then when I was old enough for it to be my experience I used to swim so often, I couldn't be bothered. When I had them done, she said they really suited me, and she didn't know why she didn't make me have them done before. I smiled sweetly and said nothing. It probably isn't coincidental that I was in Australia when I had them pierced.

If you follow the guidance on rotating them and keeping them clean, you should be fine.

Redruby2020 · 11/12/2021 18:50

Hi, I was the same as you, I had mine done at a similar age for the first time, went to a well know jewellery/accessory store to have it done, absolutely fine. And enjoyed years of deciding which earrings I wanted each day lol. Until the novelty wore off lol. Although I have just bought a pack of Christmas ones(studs) that I am looking forward to wearing over this month etc, as all nice ones not over the top or child like, as they were in the adult section in store.

stclair · 11/12/2021 19:05

I had mine done at 26. I had not long arrived in the UK and a friend took me to Claire’s to have it done in the window. That I would not recommend! But have no regrets having pierced ears.

wombatsandstuff · 11/12/2021 19:06

Thanks guys. I have decided just to go for it, so I’m having it done on Friday. I’m excited.

Had ears and other piercings as an adult, love them all! Go for it.

User00000000 · 11/12/2021 21:45

Had my first ones done as a young teenager, have recently added another in each lobe and one in cartilage.

It's definitely worth getting it done at a proper piercing studio with a needle as I barely felt a thing. I remember it being much more painful with the piercing gun!

thistimelastweek · 11/12/2021 21:55

I had mine done in my 40s.

It was like now or never. No better reason than that.

Haven't regretted it but can't pretend I'm happier for it.

Still me but with sparkly bits in my ears.

XenoBitch · 11/12/2021 21:57

I did in my late 20s. Went to a proper tattoo/piercing place.

OddBoots · 11/12/2021 22:01

I had mine done with a gun at 15 but they never healed so I took them out at 20 and let them close up. At 30 I decided to get them done with a needle, it was much less painful and they have healed well.

Annabelle69 · 11/12/2021 22:04

I had my ears pierced multiple times in my teens (punk scene), but never bothered with earrings after my early 20s. Then in my late 40s I got on my left ear lobe, tragus and forward helix pierced. In my right ear, lobe, conch, and a flat. All by a pro piercer with a needle, in a tattoo shop. Expensive discreet jewelery.

wombatsandstuff · 17/12/2021 12:25

Thanks guys.

I had them done today, it was fine, I was worried about nothing. It barely hurt (done with a needle). And I chose the prettiest purple opals (or Opal like, not entirely sure). Super pretty though. Now just got to be calm for 8 weeks.

Hooray!
Hopefully they don't give you any problems and it's plain sailing.

LockdownCheeseToastie · 19/12/2021 19:41

Mil got hers done at 70 because she found some earrings she liked. Never too old. I got my 2nd lobe piercings re done in my 40s as the original ones were wonky- well worth the cost of the proper needle piercer! Got them done by the same person I used for teen dd’s first lobe piercings.
