Varicose vein treatment for one almighty vein in thigh

I’ve had what I suspected to be varicose veins from an early age (probably 20). They’ve been getting progressively worse and the first time I felt really self conscious about them was on a holiday with my partner and other couples 2 years ago. I constantly felt like I wanted something across my thigh when walking about by the pool because I have one vein that goes from high up down to my knee pretty much, with a few bumps and twists in it along the way. It really is an eye sore that cannot be missed. I’m on the pill (rigevidon) and have been since I was 18 (apart from last year). I did ask the doctor if I should still be on it when they just seem to be looking worse and she kind of said itl make no difference. I’m now nearly 30 and recently had a baby, I don’t think being pregnant made them drastically worse but it came to a head now because I want to take my baby to swimming classes that all my friends are going to but I’m held back by the fact I’d have to reveal my awful veins to do so 😔 We’re also going on holiday in the summer and I can cope with my partner seeing them but I just won’t feel great by the pool when they’re so visible. My left leg is the really awful one and on the other leg I have one that’s more visible from the side so I’m not as self conscious about it but it would still need done too.

The walk in, walk out procedure you can have done that ‘sounds like’ it’s just a quick infection and it’s all over appears too good to be true. I’m near Glasgow if that makes any difference. Does anyone have any experience with this? Does it work? Does it last? Does it hurt most importantly? 😬 Is it expensive? My mum had hers ‘stripped’ when I was a child and every time I look at mine I think of that word and just shudder 😭 Any suggestions or recommendations would be really helpful, thanks

Injection not infection 😂

I had the laser treatment for my veins and it was brilliant! Painless and very effective with the veins gone completely.

@Brahumbug so no injections, just a laser? Is it done in one session? Thanks!

Yes, there were no injections. There were 2 sessions, one for each leg as they don't do both at once, but 5 years later and there is still no sign of them at all! My mother had the 'stripping out' procedure many years ago and she said it was horrendous.

No to stripping veins!

I had radio ablation. I was very cross that I had booked a taxi when I was totally able to walk home.

I had mine done recently (lasered), both at the same time. It took a couple of hours and was uncomfortable but not painful. I had to wear stockings afterwards for a week and keep my feet up. I could have walked home but it would have taken a while Grin

Mine will need a follow up with the foam injections because they were quite extensive, but I'm so glad I've had it done. I'd had them stripped 20 years ago but they can grow back in some cases.
