Has anyone had a endometrial ablation?

I am on a waiting list to have this procedure (hopefully soon).
I am 48 and have had years of heavy periods, they have left me very anaemic and housebound during my period. I absolutely dread my period.
I also suffer from polyps and have had them removed 3 times via hysteroscopy (over the last 5 years) but they grow back and even after removal I still suffer heavy bleeding.
I can’t tolerate hormonal stuff so the mini pill and mirena haven’t worked so have opted for the ablation.
However, there seems to be some hit and miss experiences of this procedure online with woman saying it left them in a lot of pain or that they needed a hysterectomy not long after although my friend has had it done and says it gave her life back.
Anyone had this done? What was your experience?

Best thing I ever did. Was told it could grow back. It lasted 10 years and then my period returned but the lightest you could imagine.

@Twoweekcruise

ParkerTheThief I am concerned about the pain but an ablation is about one of my only options left.
You can have it done under GA - my error was prioritising recovery time because of work and thinking I was hard enough to deal with the discomfort horrific pain

I'd still have it done again as it has literally given me back my life

It’s been ok - has worked well so far for me (but I am still debating on a hysterectomy) as I still get some pain. I’ve had one period since which was very light and not like my 12-18 day ones before. It’s fantastic not having stupidly heavy periods which were making me very very poorly.

My operation was on a Friday morning was home by 1pm and started a new job the following Monday, very little recovery time, it was done under a general. Not too much pain that I can remember I don’t remember it being awful more like a heavy period cramp.

My consultant offered me both but due to being under 40 he recommended the ablation first and if I wasn’t happy or it didn’t work I could the full hysterectomy - I’m waiting to see him again soon to discuss the hysterectomy.

ParkerTheThief I am to be booked under a local as I don’t do well with GA’s. I’ll have to bite hard on a strap of leather or something lol!

ChristmasTreeBee is your pain frequent or cyclical?

I had it under general and it's been brilliant. No bleeding at all for 2 years after the first week post surgery.

I was exhausted from the anaesthesia but the pain post op was less than my usual period pains.

Definitely a great move for me.

I know someone else that had it around the same time and i5 didn't help at all, she ended up having a hysterectomy.

I think the main difference was the size and placement of our fibroids, hers were bigger and with the womb and couldn't be improved by the ablation, mine were in the wall

Had this done over ten years ago. Best thing I did, similar to others debilitatingly heavy periods before no periods subsequently.

Despite the discomfort I'd still have it done again under local if that was the only option available to me. I remember squeezing the nurses hand very loudly and grunting.

I had painkiller suppositories before hand - make sure you take anything they offer!

Good luck!

I had it 20 yrs ago. I was a theatre sister in gynae and after I flooded and fainted whilst assisting the surgeon it was decided I was an excellent candidate.
I still had no periods for 10 yrs then I started having light periods. They stopped when I entered the menopause!
