Has your child got a heated jacket?

They're probably highly dangerous for children, which is why I can't find one from a reputable outlet.
If your child has a heated jacket, please tell me where I might find such a thing and are they safe?

Why would you need one? It's not that cold just layer them up.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 10/12/2021 21:09

No?

Mine has a nice, thick Primark coat and wears layers underneath with knitted hat and gloves. Layers are far preferable

gogohm · 10/12/2021 21:11

Heated? I'm assuming you live in the U.K.? Just layer with thermals and a fleece with a waterproof jacket on top - mountain warehouse does thick coats

You can get hand warmers to pop in the pockets? But yeah, a heated coat doesn’t sound safe. Rapid overheating of the child is the first thing that comes to mind.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/12/2021 21:42

How is it heated?

CMOTDibbler · 10/12/2021 21:48

No, but I do, and its awesome. But tbh only necessary if you standing around in the cold rather than moving. Lands End do really warm coats for kids

Tee20x · 10/12/2021 21:56

No. Mine has a fleece lined overall from H&M and keeps her toasty.

RampantIvy · 10/12/2021 22:01

I have never heard of heated jackets. Won't several layers do instead?

CtrlU · 10/12/2021 22:05

Heated jacket??
Never even heard of it

OopsadayZ · 10/12/2021 22:08

I've never heard of them for kids. I assume the OP means ones that you can charge. I've seen heated filets for adults. And I seriously ciovet one!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 10/12/2021 22:09

No he does not.

But I am very interested in buying one for me - where did you get yours CMOTDibbler? I didn't know such things existed.

Fiddlersgreen · 10/12/2021 22:14

@CMOTDibbler would you recommend them? I’ve never heard of such a thing but I spend a lot of time on the side of football and hockey pitches in the freezing cold

hawleybits · 10/12/2021 22:20

I should have said, that it's on my grandson's Christmas list. He's 10 and I don't think he expects to get one but evidently his friend has one and he's rather envious. I'd like to buy him one but only if it's safe!

Regatta do them for adults for about £50. I wouldn't want it switched on when doing exercise but it's great for standing around in the park and meeting up for outside drinks/lunch.

Shouldbedoing · 10/12/2021 22:23

Just get him a very small woman’s heated gilet. I have a navy one.

CMOTDibbler · 10/12/2021 22:45

Mine is from Trespass and it was £60, worth every penny, but not of the full price though it's a really nice coat. It runs off any powerbank and has 4 heat panels

BatonRouge · 10/12/2021 23:05

What an absurd idea. Total waste of energy. Good grief unless you're in a polar region, completely unnecessary.

I was asking whether these jackets are safe and if anyone has one and could recommend it. It's rather rude of you to comment so negatively when you have absolutely no idea of our situation.

I've never heard of these but a heated gilet sounds wonderful for when I'm cold at home and don't want to heat the whole house. I was freezing this evening.

I can't imagine they're ecologically friendly.
Roundeartheratchriatmas · 15/12/2021 09:17

Driving a car and having children isn’t ecologically friendly either but plenty of people do those.

helpfulperson · 15/12/2021 09:24

They run off rechargeable power-packed and use a small amount of charge. Certainly more ecologically friendly than heating my house or even a room when working from home.

I don't see a problem with a 10 year old having one so long as an adult oversees it's use.

JustLyra · 15/12/2021 12:12

I’m anaemic and have one for hanging round waiting on the kids, it’s great, but I wouldn’t have one for the kids.

BogRollBOGOF · 15/12/2021 13:08

There's a warning on my pack of handwarmers about children and temperature regulation; children are more prone to overheating/ getting cold more rapidly than adults. While a 10yo is a long way from a baby/ toddler, they are also pre-pubescent and lack adult levels of fat stores.
I'd hope that a child spent more time running around to keep warm compared to adults (standing freezing watching their football match Grin )

Sounds amazing for warming up after a cold water swim/ long run though!
