Random swimming question

I'm starting baby swimming next week. What is the quickest way of during myself?? The baby will just be wrapped up and be dry very quickly. but I always feel like it takes me ages to dry after swimming. Where do I put him while I'm dressing? Am I overthinking??

Get him dressed first, then I used to put mine in the car seat (we all brought them in and put to the side of the pool as was a small pool and we had private use, not a massive leisure centre). Or failing that, a towel on the floor. You could use a towelling robe for yourself and see if it makes it any easier, put it on when you come out of the water, and you'll dry off some by the time you get dressed.

The ones I've been to had a playpen in them but I'm not sure they will now
Get a cubicle if you can, take talc as you will never get properly dry without it
Be prepared to come out looking frazzled Grin

Ooh I forgot, I used to put those microwavable warm bags in our towels so we started to warm up when we were drying off

Wrap a towel round yourself and dry and dress baby first.

escapingthecity · 10/12/2021 18:49

I actually used to do the opposite - wrap baby up in a towel and deposit on the mats they have, then get dressed myself. (I read a Rebecca Adlington article about swimming with babies which suggested that and stuck to it) Talcum powder v helpful.

espresso14 · 10/12/2021 18:53

Escapingthecity I did that with two of mine too, they were nice and snug in towel and pretty dry by the time to dress them, and then don't moan.
Mind you, when babies, if they see you without your top on when getting dry, you get immediate demands for milk Hmm

genius!!!

I ised to get the baby dry and dressed first as the changing rooms were chilly, and sort myself after. Re drying yourself, just dry quickly and don't be too fussy about being perfectly dry, you can always sort yourself out when you get home.

I had a fold out waterproof mat to stick the baby on.

Dashdotcom · 10/12/2021 18:57

I strip off babies swimwear, wrap them up in a dry towel and then get yourself dressed quickly first. I’ve got a soft waterproof change mat which is comfier for them to lie on.
For myself I take a smallish towel, roll my cozzie down and dry the top then dry the bottom. Take baggy clothes, no one wants to be faffing with skinny jeans or tights!
If babies confidentially sitting up and potentially a bit wiggly hooded poncho towels are a life saver, as are toys or snacks to keep them quiet.

DirtyDancing · 10/12/2021 18:58

Whatever you do.. don't wear tights!

Sleep bra. Joggers and warm hoodie and jumper. Coats are a nightmare

This is genius, thanks for the tip! Think I might level it up to a hot water bottle and try it next week!
voxnihili · 10/12/2021 20:22

I’ve got a long poncho towel for myself - it was a game changer. So much easier dressing the baby (now toddler) without having to try and hold the towel on.

Driposaurus · 10/12/2021 20:23

Off with swimming costumes asap, wrap a towel around you and I found by the time the baby was dry, I was pretty dry.

RichTeaCheddars · 10/12/2021 20:35

I take baby's wet costume off, dry and dress in simple vest and onesie out fit. Even as a toddler she has a tracksuit type all in one. So easy. Then I get myself dry and dressed. Just joggers and t-shirt and jumper. Slip on shoes no socks. I'm still a little damp but I always head straight home and sort myself out.

I've always used the drop down changing units in cubicles or if there is an open area with the freestanding changing tables with a dip in the middle I use them and a waterproof mat I bring

HalloHello · 11/12/2021 21:18

Thanks for all your comments! Think wrapping baby up and sorting myself out while he's cosy and drying is a good shout then can get out of there asap once I've dressed him! Unfortunately when we go for our lesson next week, I have his vaccinations 30 mins after it finishes and it's in a different town so that's going to be a mad rush!
