Water bill - what’s yours?

Noeuf · 10/12/2021 11:24

Just interested - I can’t see any obvious leaks and there are six of us all of whom shower regularly. Lots of washing of clothes.
One disabled kid who has a daily bath but we don’t qualify for any help from the water people as we earn above their limits.
1000 from June to December for incoming and waste water. So we are 500 in deficit and they are upping the charges each month. Water metre.

sorry for typos I dropped my phone and cracked it so it's hard to type!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/12/2021 23:26

We pay about 50 a month,3 adults showering daily, dishwasher once or twice a day, washing machine at least once a day and garden which we water a lot.

hellololabells2019 · 10/12/2021 23:27

We are 65 a month. Two adults, four kids. Three baths a week, use the shower around 16 times, dishwasher twice a day. Washing machine every day.

ShanghaiDiva · 10/12/2021 23:28
We are SE so everything is more expensive.
fake news! Thames Water metered rates £1.48/m3, United Utilities in the north west is £1.85/m3!
South west water is the most expensive.

teenagetantrums · 10/12/2021 23:31

Ours was £30for two adults. Occasionally visiting grown children. So 3 washes a a week and two showers a day. Went up to £80 a few months ago then we realised we had a leak in toilet cistern ..expensive mistake.

TuftyMarmoset · 10/12/2021 23:40

Ours is £21 a month including the waste water and sewerage charges or whatever it is else they put on there (Thames water). There are only two of us but £110 a month sounds high. I’d definitely be checking for leaks. For the shower and bathroom taps you can also get those aerators which help you save water which are good.

Noeuf · 11/12/2021 06:53

@Walkerbean16 over £2000 - for the year or six months? Ours is £1000 for six months and that’s really high for six of us. Have a look back to see if it’s increasing or if it’s always been high. I’d be looking into that though.

Yikes yes I would assume a leak or somehow someone else is tapping into your supply, I had that in my last house. We did get a fair chunk refunded though once they investigated the source. Now we pay £380 a year, unfortunately (!) they couldn't fit a meter but I said we don't have the amount of people they base they their estimates on in the house, so they did an estimate on actual people in the house and it reduced a fair bit

whenwillthemadnessend · 11/12/2021 07:05

These large bills are crazy. I live in Herts in a 4 bed with a meter. Mine was 32 last reading Two teens two bathroom
Teens dont shower every day but dd likes a looong shower twice a week and Ds likes a bath so they not frugal

Washing machine daily dishwasher 3 times a week

TheChosenTwo · 11/12/2021 07:38

@Walkerbean16 we just got our gas and electric bill through, £371 in the last month! Dh nearly collapsed in shock, it’s a big hike since last month. We are usually around £200 ish.
I can’t remember what we pay for water, something tells me it’s £100 a month.

Noeuf · 11/12/2021 07:47

Our electric and gas is £134 a month which is ok (high but I get it). I’ve just bought a shower timer (we have a tiny free one no one uses) and am going to go round again to see.

I hope its a year! we have lived here a year and been paying 75 a month then they have put it up to that!

Noeuf · 11/12/2021 09:34

Have a look at your account and check. Our meter was still going but slower this morning (still nothing on) . No idea about the water tank isolation thing so am putting it all to one side until they come in January.

I don’t have a meter or a garden that needs watering, 3 bedroom house, 1-2 people (DS at uni) £52 a month

TuftyMarmoset · 11/12/2021 11:53

@GrandmasCat if you can get one, a meter would probably save you money since you probably use less than the average 3 bed house

vodkaredbullgirl · 11/12/2021 11:57

£56 a month (Wessex water)

ThePug · 11/12/2021 15:41

Mine was £196 for March - October, so about £28 per month. We're in a 5 bed newbuild - me, DH, 5 and 3 year olds. Dishwasher goes on once every day/sometimes every other day. Probably 3 loads if washing per week. The boys don't have a bath every day so that'll help, but I've just made the call that they need separate baths now as they fight/splash about too much when together so that'll bump it up a bit! That bill included the summer when we had a big inflatable water slide on whenever it was hot though so I'm pleased that didn't cost a bomb!

StillFestive · 11/12/2021 15:59

We are 2 adults, 1 DC in a 3 bed semi. DC in primary school and the adults working out of the home 5 and 4 days a week. Adults showered daily and DC bathed every other night. Washing machine and dishwasher on daily, occasionally use the hose in the summer on the garden and paddling pool. We currently pay £22 per month (usage and waste combined) on a meter, although I’m expecting it to increase on the next bill as I’m now on maternity leave (it did last time). We had the meter put in when we moved in. The old lady who lived here alone before us and had no central heating was paying £50 per month Shock

MrsDThomas · 11/12/2021 17:18

£140 per annum. Supply only, no meter.

PeaceONoeuf · 15/12/2021 09:30

So update - they are coming to check and they’ve also put us on watersure (with evidence).
So thank you everyone for posting as it helped me realise it was a lot higher. Have to say, they’ve been incredibly helpful.
