Booking Lapland Trip

Hello,

I'm looking to book a trip to Lapland in December 2023. Children will be 7 (nearly 8) and (just) 5 by this time, is this about the right ages to go?

Any recommendations? We've got a decent budget as this will be a once in a lifetime trip so happy to splash out a bit.

Thank you ❄️

We went with Tui for 4 nights to Hetta, which is not commercial at all, our kids were 4 and 6. It was amazing. I thought that the Santa visit would be the central part, but everything was so amazing, the scenery, and all the tours, that it really wouldn't have mattered if your kids didn't believe still, it was truly magical even without Santa.
We paid about £4k Inc excursions and had our own apartment attached to a hotel on half board basis.
Hetta is really far north too, so better chance of seeing the northern lights (we did see them)

I took DD when she was 7. We did the day trip with Canterbury Travel who were brilliant. It was a long day, DD had a nap on the plane. Loved it, so glad we went.

We were lucky enough to go on a charity day trip, which meant we had a privately chartered plane. Meaning that any dealy didn't matter and we still had the same amount of time allocated in the village. 6 hours if I remember correctly. As the whole place had been booked out for our party.

6 hours was a push and very tiring. Luckily in the end we didn't have any delays. But I know the organisers said it was one of the few years it had gone completely smoothly as usually bad weather held up the plane.

I think if I was planning the trip alone, I would try and stay at least overnight to have a bit of leeway for weather etc.

I had always thought it couldn't possibly be that special, but it was the most amazing day ever. If you can afford it go for it!

We went with Canterbury Travel a few years ago when the DCs were 5, 7 and 9 - it was amazing. It was very expensive but we didn't spend much when we were there as everything was included and you had plenty of time for each of the activities (whereas I'd read that for some of the cheaper providers, you end up spending a lot when there as the time for the activities just isn't long enough).

Can't recommend Canterbury Travel highly enough - they were fab! (We went for 3 nights)

We went to yllas, Finland. Book for a week. That way you get down time to play in the snow, whereas 3 days, it's just a constant itinerary. Also means if your flights are delayed due to snow, you still have plenty of time there. We booked early December and it was stressful as there was no snow throughout most of November and that's becoming more common now. There was enough snow for us but not enough for e.g. snow mobiles. We had a great time and would 100% go back but later in the month

I just wanted to update for anyone else looking to book.

We're going this year! So the children will be 6 and 4. Have used Canterbury Travel after the recommendations on here so thank you. 2 night/3 day trip to Suomu, Finland in Lodge accommodation mid-December.

Very excited!

We’ve booked with Canterbury travel el leaving after Xmas, Father Christmas will leave an invitation in their stockings. It’s the more luxury of the package holidays but half the price. I think the eldest (9) will have doubts about humans dressed in elf costumes so we’re going to pay a private Santa to come to o log cabin, and we will do things like hide little elf hats in the snow outside
