Habitat / Argos Sofa any good?

Hello,

Has anyone here purchased a sofa from habitat over the past few years now that it is part of Argos? Or an Argos sofa over the past few years?

If so, how has it held up?

I’m looking at the leather Milford or Salisbury sofa as we’ve been massively let down after waiting 16 weeks for a new expensive sofa which arrived with part of the frame snapped!! We disposed of our old sofa as no space for both in our home at the same time, so now we are sofaless and need something quick.

Thank you

The reviews look ok

Why don't you try freegle and freecycle and get a stopgap sofa for nothing?

Wildernesstips · 08/12/2021 18:06

Not a sofa, but a recliner (Tommy) and I’ve been really pleased with it.

Thank you! That’s great to hear. Do you mind sharing how long you’ve had it for?

I did consider a second hand one from gumtree etc as a stopgap but haven’t seen anything decent & it does have to be decent as this was all part of doing the place up to put it on the market in the new year.

Can’t exactly remember but think I got it in Spring this year. For context, I have 2 young adult DS and 2 large Maine Coon cats. The chair has been in constant use and has fared well. Even managed to clean spillages off with no trouble.

There’s not much point spending loads of money on a new sofa if you’re about to move. It might not fit in your new lounge or you may want a different colour scheme etc. I’d get a second hand one, as long as it looks ok it will be fine. You can always add cushions and a throw if needs be, prospective buyers aren’t going to sit on it or make it part of their decision to buy!

@Nanasmummy, I live near some nice towns and decent ones come up often on Freecycle. There are ones that aren't great too but M&S,Habitat, Laura Ashley, Furniture Village, Made etc are often listed.

Often people just fancy a different style or colour

I bought 2 leather Habitat settees from Argos in September. They're lovely and firm, fairly high, which I like. The arms are sturdy, the colour is good. The only thing - they aren't as big as the old ones we had, so we bought a 3 seater (more like a 2 seater) and a 4 seater (comfortably seats 2 adults and 2 kids but certainly not 4 adults)

Ours are the Salisbury ones

Best sofa I ever bought was from Habitat but it was pre-Argos. Cushions are still good as new and not flattened and it's still going strong. Covers are a bit faded now but it is 15 years old.

What about dfs must go sofas- end of stock. We got two for £600 a year ago and they are fab :)

I bought an Argos sofa about 18 years ago as a stop gap that my young children at the time could ruin without too much worry. It lasted well over ten years. It cost back then £650 for one 2 seater and one 3 seater. My parents around the same time spent several thousand in a similar looking set of sofas and both said my Argos ones were much more comfortable.

I've got an ikea ektorp set right now and equally as pleased.

Thank you so much!! So much to think about - I hate making decisions like this under pressure.

Also, yes, Ikea was also another option as a few can be delivered by the end of the week - the Ektorp and Stocksund - although I am not sure how the Stocksund in coated fabric / fake leather would hold up as I can’t see many reviews on Ikea faux leather.

I’ve also looked around for second hand & would consider a nice worn in good quality leather sofa for a few hundred pounds, but instead people are genuinely selling sofas in so much worse condition (holes in the leather) and wanting a few hundred pounds. DD has awful eczema so wouldn’t want to take the risk with second hand fabric, especially when I could get a new Ektorp for not much more & would likely make a good playroom sofa.
