Accident compensation calls, are they telling the truth?

After an accident I was in last year, I got numerous calls saying that the insurance companies have a 'pot of money that needs to be used' for compensation. They talked about minor injuries such as pulling from the seatbelt. Apparently I would have received the full amount. I've wondered about them since; is this true what they were saying? What if I had said yes I wanted to claim?

if it sounds too good to be true...

Onehotmess · 07/12/2021 15:16

No no no! Do not give any information to these people. They will tell you anything

jaychops · 07/12/2021 15:17

Exactly! I'm just interested to see if anyone has been in this situation and what happened.

FFS no, it's a scam call. Like when they claim the police gave them details of "your recent accident". Never happened. Even if you had an accident recently, when you make thousands of automated calls a day, you're bound to find someone who has had a prang.

You probably would have got some money, but the firm would have done a quick and dirty job and claimed an unreasonably large share of any award.
They're not a scam in the full sense of the word like the guys from "Microsoft". They're more like double glazing salesmen who will provide the service offered but sell it in disingenuous ways at too high a price.
The bit about the pot of money that needs to be paid out is essentially bollocks.

minmooch · 07/12/2021 15:23

No they are scams.

I always have fun with the calls. Say I want the pot of money in £20 notes. They start asking for details and I tell them as they have rung me they must have them.

I just repeat £20 notes until they get fed up!

They are scammers. Plus the rules recently changed and to meet the threshold to have your costs paid by the other side at the conclusion of a successful claim, your injuries have to now be worth a minimum of £5,000.00 so the days of a couple of grand for a bit of whiplash are long gone.

PassingByAndThoughtIdDropIn · 07/12/2021 15:28

Yes the rules have changed so if you've been wondering why these guys have stopped calling you, that's why.

Sort of a scam, in the same way that PIP claim companies were a scam. If you were genuinely injured and required compensation for the impact injuries have had on your life you'd have started pursuing that through the proper channels.

Companies like this flood the system with calls in the hope they catch someone who has recently been in an accident and then try to construct a case so they can claim £££££ in your name and you end up with £ because of their fees.
