cleaners - fair rate?

MrsKDB · 07/12/2021 09:41

If you have a cleaner can you please let me know how much you pay / for how long / how big your house is (ie floors/storeys and no. of bathrooms especially). And also where you are in the country as this could be relevant if prices differ across regions!

I am looking to hire someone and want to be fair about pricing from the beginning. Would be great to hear from any cleaners on here too.

Thank you!

2 hours per week, £13 an hour, she uses her own products, leaves the house gleaming and smelling gorgeous.

3 bedroom, 2 storey, 3 bathroom house north east

Toasty280 · 07/12/2021 10:14

Midlands 2 hours per week £12.50, used own products, 4 bed, 1 ensuite shower room, one family bathroom, downstairs toilet, 2 floors

tobypercy · 07/12/2021 10:19

They'll tell you their charge - you just say yes or no :)

I pay £15ph, Scotland central belt. She does 2 hours per week which isn't enough to clean everything every week but it's enough for me (4 bed, 2.5 bathrooms and a lot of mess she has to work around!)

£10 an hour London

CityCommuter · 07/12/2021 10:56

I never had a cleaner but £10 per hour for London sounds amazingly cheap! I sometimes think I'd like one for mopping the floors, hoovering, folding and ironing clothes, change all the beds and clean the bathroom and en suites so basically everything!

For those of you who have a cleaner do you 'tidy up' beforehand and move stuff off shelves in bathroom for instance so that they can clean properly?

I spend atleast and hour tidying and decluttering before she comes, otherwise if she had to move all the shit that just gets dumped in this house she wouldn't even get half done 😂

MarshaBradyo · 07/12/2021 14:23

Pet-free, two adults, no DC household. South east, four beds two baths.

We asked original cleaner how long it would take to keep the house 'ready for my mother to visit'. She suggested two - three hours, twice a week.

When she retired and moved to the south-west, she handed us over to a friend.

We would not be without her.

£15/hr, double rates on weeks with public holidays. Visits for deep cleaning when we are away (not so much recently) and unpacks Waitrose delivery the day before our return. Has sorted out local trades and put us in touch with a brilliant gardener. Has a genius for finding things I have lost including my glasses.

We ask occasionally what we can do to make her life easier, too.

Positivelysober · 07/12/2021 14:44

I'm a cleaner, I'm in Suffolk. I charge £15 pH. I use all my own products and equipment, Inc hoover etc, unless one of my customers asks me to use something in particular they want me to use.
Most of my cleans are 3 bed, 2 bathrooms, downstairs loo, kitchen, lounge, hall, stairs and landing. I do these in two hours, some are weekly some fortnightly, I do work very hard to get the homes cleaned thoroughly in this time - dust, clean, de cob web, skirting boards, glass/mirrors, hoover, mop etc - sometimes I rotate jobs, particularly the weekly jobs.
I do have two, three hour jobs, three story houses both with three bathrooms and downstairs toilet, they both like me just to clean the bathrooms, hoover and clean the floors because that's all there's time for and what they want me to do.

If they want me to do anything else they'll leave me a note or phone me and ask me to leave doing one of the usual jobs and sub it with whatever they'd like me to do instead.

Positivelysober · 07/12/2021 14:52

The three storey houses - have three bedrooms, study, lounge, dining room, kitchen and two flights of stairs - thought I'd mention for relevance how how much floor I have to clean.

Ifailed · 07/12/2021 15:03

how about turn it around - how much would you expect to be paid to clean your house?

MarshaBradyo · 07/12/2021 15:07

Reading posts I feel like four hours is quite long for four bed house, which is what we have

I won’t change it of course but just out of interest

Hoppinggreen · 07/12/2021 15:08

£12 in Yorkshire
She does 3 hours 1 week and 4 the next.
She’s “bottoming” it at the moment so she doesn’t do the whole house every week but once she’s on top of it she should be able to do all 4 bedrooms, bathrooms and downstairs

KaleJuicer · 07/12/2021 15:11

I have a housekeeper 20 hours a week - she's paid £12 net per hour, I pay pension, NI and tax on top of that. London. 4 bed terraced house. She does all laundry, ironing, cooking and grocery unpacking too.

Justonedayatatime11 · 07/12/2021 15:15

Bloody hell @Positivelysober, fancy coming as far as Norfolk?!

Positivelysober · 07/12/2021 15:33

@Justonedayatatime11 - a little far for me to come 🤣if I was a bit nearer.....

OompaLumpaLabrador · 07/12/2021 15:46

We have a housekeeper for 10 hours per week visits 3x a week). Large 5 bed house, 2 children, dog and cat. As well as cleaning, she also does ironing, sheet changing, most of the laundry (although I still put loads in). Pay 12.50 an hour. She works at a pretty relaxed pace, has a couple of decent breaks each visit. We prefer it that way as she enjoys her job and is kind and loyal.
