Am I Invisible on Etsy or WHAT?

I know I'm not, btw but I'm feeling the tiniest bit disheartened that no one's even looking at my page after 2 weeks. I've paid £1 per day upon request from Etsy to try to drum up a bit of interest with a 3 second ad every 48 hours or something, but I'm thinking of just gathering up my bits and bobs and just having a car boot sale Grin

I'm a silversmith, sell silver jewellery around the £18 - £30 mark and free P&P. It's nice stuff, according to people I've gifted it too Grin

I'm not linking to the page because I'm not using MN as advertising, but I would genuinely love some seasoned advice!

Btw, I've been on MN 14 years (trying to fend off any forthcoming accusations of spamming) and using a new name tonight to post something sensitive, but just doing this first.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi OP,
I run an Etsy shop with over 3000 sales since I opened in April 2021, it's not the same as it's digital downloads but I had tried over the years multiple times to set up other Etsy shops to no avail. My tips are to use a website such as "erank" to check your titles and key word tags to make sure you're using things people are searching for. I watched many hours of YouTube videos to teach me how to be in the algorithms favour!
I started with the $1 a day ads for 2 weeks, upped to $2 and so on, now I am making multiple daily sales as advertise at $7 a day. There's no point in advertising until all your key words are tags are fully optimised.
I think jewellery is a saturated market, is there something about your jewellery that makes it particularly unique and you can focus in on marketing that to people who would be particularly interested?

Would also love a link if you're happy to DM me? I'm always on the lookout for handmade silver jewellery, especially at this time of year!

I love silver jewellery. I'm never sure where to find nice, interesting pieces, but your stuff sounds like it's right up my street!

I know nothing about selling on Etsy, but it seems you need some better exposure. As a PP has said, if you've not posted anything sensitive under this MN username you could always give us a little linky! Smile

I love Etsy and your jewellery sounds lovely, what’s your shop called on Etsy x

EveningOverRooftops · 07/12/2021 07:45

What are your photographs like? They are the main draw for products.

Also product tags? Have you got enough tags on each product to get it in more searches?

As an example ‘Mother’s gift/mother of the bride/bridal jewellery’ are tags that could apply to some of your items

Do you use other social media to promote your work?
Instagram is particularly good for creative crafts and you can get a bigger following by posting regularly, consistently and having a clear message about your posts. FB can work too.

Maybe a few videos of you making a piece, increase the speed/edit in post so a 1hr session can fit a minute.

Etsy on its own will be hard. You need other avenues to draw people directly to your storefront

EveningOverRooftops · 07/12/2021 07:46

Oh and your shop front branding is important too. A good designer can work a logo, header etc as weep as matching branding for fb and Instagram if you go that route for a reasonable price.

I am not on Etsy but I just wanted to say that this is one of the nicest threads I have ever seen on here - friendly and supportive with loads of brilliant advice.
Hope it goes well for you, OP.

That's something I search for on Etsy but often a lot of the returns aren't actually makers but 'middlemen'. I really want to buy direct from the maker.

ImFree2doasiwant · 07/12/2021 07:52

I want to havea look Op, can you link here then namechange for your other post?

Newnormal99 · 07/12/2021 08:04

In my area there is a local Facebook selling group for craft stuff. They rotate sellers every quarter and many people link to Etsy.

It started just before last Xmas and has about 11k members now. I have bought several things from there and gone back to one of them as well for another purchase.

Postdatedpandemic · 07/12/2021 08:08

I've just started a thread in Style and Beauty for anyone (including OP) to link to their favourite small jewellery maker.

Delphinna · 07/12/2021 08:22

Have you tried doing gold plated? Silver is out of fashion, if you look at the big brands they’re all selling gold plated silver.

Secondly put your prices up! Sounds silly but your jewellery is so cheap people will think it’s trash.

Thirdly, good branding and photographs are everything. Show the jewellery on a model. Having photos that are clear and consistent isn’t enough - the photos need to be aspirational lifestyle shots.

3WildOnes · 07/12/2021 08:54

I buy pretty much all of my jewellery from Etsy but I tend to only buy gold plated or vermeil. It sounds like you have got lots of great advice from this thread.
