Hi all, quick question.
I normally order a turkey for xmas, but have decided against this yr. whilst I know i could buy a chicken from m&s and freeze for xmas, i would sooner buy and refrigerate for a few days. My question is does m&s have lots of large chickens in the days before xmas available to buy off the shelf? I haven’t noticed before as not been an issue.
Thanks

How long is a piece of string?

It depends on the supply chain in your area and how many people decide to have chicken for Christmas.

If you’re not sure then buy it a week before and freeze. Can be easily defrosted overnight.

Just wondering really if in the last few years they have been available to buy up to xmas.

I wouldn't rely on the last few years to be honest. Too many different factors.

I'd be playing it safe (in fact I have. Our turkey is in the freezer already).

You can always buy another fresh if available and keep the frozen for another occasion if you're really set on fresh.

Just buy one and freeze it now? That’s what we’ve done already with our goose and beef.

People won't be having as many large gatherings this Christmas so there will be many more smaller gatherings, hence more people may well get a large chicken instead.

I'd probably get a large chicken now and freeze it.

Thanks folks, much appreciated.
