Christmas gift for cleaner-cash or gift?

I've been wondering what to get our cleaner for Xmas. Dh thinks a gift I think cash.
She works via an agency so I thought £50 in cash would be good. That's the same as a clean ( well that's what I pay the agency).
Her last clean will be 20th so I thought cash might be good in the run up to Xmas. Dh thinks some champagne and chocolates. Which would you prefer?

Cash - think of it as. C’mas bonus rather than a gift - ideally the equivalent of a clean

@Starisnotanumber

I was that person some years ago looking at expensive chocolates and wine which I had been given wanting to buy selection boxes and a few more bits for the kids. Glad you are giving cash
Exactly this. Or to have it there as a form of ‘holiday pay’ so I could spend Boxing Day with the family without loss of income. £50 is a lot when you earn less than £200 a week.

Absolutely cash.

Your husband needs to get a grip on reality. Champagne for someone on a low Income Confused they will definitely prefer cash to get what they need/want.

Definitely cash - a week's wages.

I would say, if you’re thinking under £10 - give a gift. Above £20 cash is best. The middling bit (£10-20, maybe a gift/cash combination (especially if you know they like certain things so can can a little thing to wrap then the rest cash in a card)?

SOME cleaners are on minimum income, and a luxury gift (expensive candle/champagne etc.) will I’m sure be very gratefully received but no matter how well intended, COULD make them feel a bit Sad about what they could have done with the cash it cost.

I always give mine cash.

RoseMartha · 12/12/2021 20:44

Cash. She will be receiving a lot less for her work than you pay the agency.

Id be really pissed off with hand cream...i literally cant think of a more useless gift...

Peckhampalace · 12/12/2021 20:53

We give a weeks cleaning cost + tin of hero's or similar. I knew a little about them but not enough to choose a present I know they would like.

TheChosenTwo · 12/12/2021 21:18

I give my cleaner an extra weeks pay in cash and a bottle of fizz. This year I’ll give her a bottle of gin.

As a cleaner cash is always appreciated, but I'm always grateful for wine or chocolates too, it's either saves me money on the Xmas shop or I can regift if it's not to my taste. One client always gives me a amazon gift card, and I love that too because I spend it purely on me on any books I wanted but didn't get at Xmas.
However my very favourite client does cash and a gift of booze, chocolates and other bits and the most beautifully card telling me how much I'm appreciated, which is always lovely to hear!
