Show me a pic of what you call worn out clothing

Keep it clean. Just curious as to what people view as worn out. I'm just realising what I think is worn out to others maybe viewed as 'still got a lot of life left in it'. I don't want to be wasteful.

I’m the same, I downgrade clothes when they get holes, fade or start getting out of shape.

I would wear them to the shops or to open the door to the postman, yes. Now it’s winter I’d wear them for any trip outside, like a school run or popping into town or going to an appointment. You don’t get a chance to take your coat off anyway, so who will know there’s a hole in your jumper?

Guests and work it depends. If I’m going in on a quiet day when there’s nobody around I might. But 99% of times I’ll wear my ‘good’ clothes when I have people over or I’m going to work.

What helps me keep my ‘good’ clothes in good condition is not overwash or overwear them. That’s where loungewear (aka shirts and jeans with holes) plays a role.

Good clothes are taken off the minute I get home. They’re put away and unless it’s been a long hot day, they’re still clean enough for a second wear. I don’t clean or cook in them, so they don’t smell and need washing after just one wear.

I work in housekeeping in a small hotel, inevetibally I'll get bleach on it so my old clothes are worn there. Luckily I wear a lot of black and fill in the orange marks with a black sharpie.

Do you guys wear this kinda stuff infront of guests, postman, to work (depending on the job)?

I don't really have guests other than family. Postman - yes (as if he gives a fuck what some middle-aged woman is wearing during the 30 second it takes him to hand over a parcel).

Working from home - I just put a posh scarf around my neck so I look reasonable for any ad-hoc video calls.

Working in the office - no. The dress code is very relaxed - basically anything as long as it isn't overly skimpy or offensive - but I like to dress reasonably smartly for work so I have lots of smart skirts, dresses, jackets and blouses.

I dunno, I had jeans on the other day and the postman commented I looked "smart" GrinBlush WFH usually in harem trousers or leggings I've been home since March 20 so he also looked bemused when I wasn't in the other week as I went to the office!

Ours just seems to want to get through the business of delivery ASAP. Perhaps I'm traumatising him with my ancient and shabby garments Grin.

I don’t really have guests but yes I wear these clothes infront of the postman or waking the dog. Working from home too - I work alone, no zoom meetings etc. But honestly, I take good care of all my clothes including loungewear so something that is slightly faded or misshapen still looks ok tbh, just not as smart as my regular clothes would. I do not wear clothes with holes or stains etc even just round the house. Tiny holes I will mend if possible, and I can’t think of the last time I ever stained my clothes. It probably helps that I don’t have kids, but I do have pets. I don’t own very many clothes either but what I do own I treat with the upmost respect. I also don’t wash clothes too often as this can cause a lot of damage

@ArblemarchTFruitbat mine is hot Blush early thirties. Nice legs Grin

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 04/12/2021 00:31

@NotMyCat Mine is also in his 30s, lovely, friendly chap, but I'm fairly sure I am old enough to be his mother so I doubt what I am wearing is on his radar Grin.

Here is a photo of one of DH under shirt t.shirts, they are unseen so they literally fall apart. I had a cashmere jumper that was really riddled with holes but so warm I kept it for years until it fell apart, I used to wear it as a base layer.

I had to dress smartly for work for decades so enjoy a life in combat trousers or leggings and big jumpers now with wellies on for traipsing through the local forest. My favourite arran jumper is now sadly misshapen but it’s fine. Neve ever has it entered my mind to worry about the postie seeing me in anything knackered, feel as if it’s off answering the door in my dressing gown though.
