I can’t stop thinking about hot chocolate after all those threads this week, so I bought one from Starbucks when I was passing earlier and it was a bit crap. So I want to hear your recipes for the best home-made hot chocolate & what I need to add to it to make it amazing.

Parameters:
I don’t have a slow cooker
I drink alcohol
I don’t care about calories
It’ll just be for me - DC too young and DH doesn’t like it

@Rainbowstripes

Sorry it isn't homemade but the costa Terry's chocolate orange hot chocolate is amazing! If anyone knows a homemade version please let me know 🤣
I was so disappointed with that!

My favourite is Options Chocolate Orange done in the Velvetiser, with Pendragon Black Forest chocolate flakes coming in a close second (it gets better if you eat Dairy Milk at the same time you’re drinking it)

DH prefers the Hotel Chocolate ginger flavour.

Velvetiser changed my life. (And I'm pretty sure I bought it after seeing a thread on MN about the most life changing thing you can buy for

Butlers hot chocolate. I think I read about it on here somewhere and bought it from Amazon. They are like big chocolates that you melt into hot milk. Delicious.

Knoops is really nice. I like the 50 something % stuff. Not too sweet but really good.

I made hot chocolate with Morrisons hot choc powder and hot milk in the pan, and chucked a Terry's Orange segment in my cup 😋

At this time of year, M&S do a salted caramel chocolate brownie liqueur. A splash of that improves every hot chocolate.

Dolce gusta malteesers.
Also costas white ruby and the xmas blackberry chocolate with blackberry sauce.

Lots of combos to try here, thanks all!

I don’t have a velvetiser and don’t intend to get one, but I can probably stretch to a milk frother. Interested in the Spanish hot chocolate too, I was spoiled many years ago with a trip to Angelina’s in Paris, which remains the best hot chocolate I have ever tasted and I think is similar to this.

There's a Mexican brand called Abuelita that is spicy and gorgeous.

ISpyCobraKai · 03/12/2021 19:26

Honestly?
I just use Twinings and make it with water and a splash of full fat milk.
I don't get the huge big sickly things with all the sweets in.
That said, I had an oat milk Hot chocolate in Costa the other week and enjoyed it.

Charbonnel etc Walker Hot Chocolate (it's basically grated chocolate) or Green and Black's. Full fat milk, heated in a pan and whisked. Pour a good shot of Creme de Menthe into a cup and pour over the hot chocolate and add squirty cream and mini marshmallows.

No contest,Sloanes of London.

Cheaper alternative a dollop of nutella and your choice of milk.

30not13 · 03/12/2021 21:58

Lidl deluxe hot chocolate with chilli 🌶

StormyTeacups · 03/12/2021 22:01

We have a standard milk frother thing for that will do a cup at a time, very popular.
