Should I use PayPal on Facebook Marketplace?

I’ve sold our buggy on Facebook Marketplace. The mum has suggested she pay on PayPal and has asked for my details. (I’m delivering the buggy tomorrow).

Is there any reason this is a bad idea?
Is there any way this could be part of a scam?

Thanks!

No, They can claim it wasn't delivered and PayPal can then refund them, so you have no pram and no money!

Oh thanks. So is it safer to give my bank details? Or do I need to say cash only?

Say cash only.

If I take a photo of the buggy at her house, would that be acceptable for PayPal to prove I delivered it? (thinking like a DPD delivery driver!)

Cash only-always!!

Cash only on collection, sold as seen as a private seller.

Definitely don't accept PayPal.

Tronkmanton · 02/12/2021 21:45

Watch they don’t send an email pretending to be from PayPal saying they’ve paid you, double check that it’s actually in your PayPal account. This happened to me before but luckily I realised before posting the item!

It may just be that it's easier than going to get (presumably quote a not if) cash out. If you're dropping it off, once the buyer has checked it over she could pay you by PayPal Friends and family while you're there - there's no comeback against the seller with that which is why you shouldn't use it when buying online, but avoids any fees for you and if certainly prefer to have money in the bank than a load of cash I never have opportunity to spend anymore (except the endless PTA /mufti day donations!)

ThePug · 02/12/2021 21:54

*quite a lot of cash!

Wooky8 · 02/12/2021 21:57

I always use and accept PayPal friends and family. No fees, and no option for them to say item not received. You wait to receive PayPal confirmation that money has been received before handing over the goods. Easy.

If you are delivering cash on collection no reason to do anything else

I had a toddler bed delivered last year and I paid via PayPal. It was only £20 though. I sent him £5 as a deposit, then the rest when he dropped it off. I paid friends and family.

I also paid via PayPal (£5) when I went to pick something up but she wasn't in so she left it in her garden for me. I sent the money, she sent a picture of it hidden.

I have also used PayPal when buying a TV on Facebook. She was similar age to me so I suggested it when we were messaging and I sent it via friends and family whilst she was showing me the tv worked.

If she wants to pay PayPal, then make sure it is friends and family. Otherwise, do cash only.
