Chicken Kiev. Your favourite brand and how do you cook it ?

I'm fortunate enough to live near a branch of Booth's and their CKs have been my preferred choice for several years, although I'm sure they're smaller than they used to be. I admit I never buy them at full price. Otherwise, the Morrison's ones at about £3.35 for two were almost as good. Very buttery and garlicky. I haven't seen them locally recently.

I always oven-cook them but I remember the likes of Berni and Cavalier Steak Bars used to deep-fry them. As if they weren't unhealthy enough!

I like the co-op ones out of the standard supermarket kievs.

I'm allergic to wheat so my Kiev options are limited, but M&S mini kievs are both wheat-free and delicious, and with minimal filling leakage.

I've never deep fried but you have to get them oou of the oven before they start oozing the garlic.

@WildRosie

I've yet to try the M&S variety. As long as they're more expensive than Booth's I probably won't.

I seem to recall that CK didn't always contain garlic. I wonder if it's a British invention, a bit like tikka masala ?

Are Bernard Matthews mini kievs still available ? I used to like those but I don't suppose they were very authentic.

Yes, mini kievs are still available. I had some for my tea tonight with some salad. Yum!

Chicken a la Kiev was considered a very exotic dish in the Doctor In The House film. Mind, that was 1954 so no wonder it's become just a little humdrum.

I have an Aldi even nearer than Booth's so that's another option.
