Genuine mistake? Amount of items in box not as stated on packaging

I am just pondering and wondering whether this is some kind of "clever" marketing ploy that manufacturers use or a genuine mistake. I bought a box of relatively expensive chocolates (£22.95), the description on the back was 30 chocolates. Normally I wouldn't even consider the number but I was filling an advent calendar so knew I needed 24 max.

Anyhow, after filling the calendar (24 days) I noticed there was only 5 chocolates left. I was sad enough to count the holes in the plastic where they sit and there is definitely only 29 indents and 29 chocolates. Double checked the back of the box and it said 30. Is this some weird way of selling by weight and hoping no one notices that they are short? I know it's a tiny amount but I am intrigued as to whether this is a normal ploy or just an oversight from the manufacturers.

I would go back to them (with a photo of the box) and ask for the missing chocolate . I’m sure it is deliberate.

If there are only 29 holes then that does sound suspicious to me 👀

Cheeky buggers!
