Clarks school shoes lasting 1 term?

HollyBollyBooBoo · 01/12/2021 10:48

Would you expect a £50 pair of patent leather girls shoes from Clarks to last more than one term.

To be fair DD walks in the 8 miles a week in them but the leather has all cracked across the top. Can't work out if I'm expecting too much from them or should complain in store?

I'd take them back into the store, they'll have a look and likely to offer to replace or money off a replacement

Makinglists · 01/12/2021 10:57

Clarks are rubbish - I would take them back. Start rite are better though not brilliant. I buy Treads shoes for DS2 now - Ive had two pairs and they last - however it seems they may have gone out of business - I'm gutted they were the best - still selling on Amazon though.

Sexnotgender · 01/12/2021 10:58

Clarks are shit and I probably wouldn’t buy patent.

Oh no I'm gutted about Treads! They were obviously too good - the quality meant I have been able to get ages out of each pair rather than binning them after a few months Sad

WakeUpLockie · 01/12/2021 11:01

YANBU I have yet to find good school shoes. Ugh I bought £50 Geox and actually said ‘we’ll get those ones because his Geox trainers have lasted really well’. Not even 1 term in and they’re peeling and raggedy!

user0176 · 01/12/2021 11:05

Clarks have always lasted the year for my boys, they're very active, football every lunch time etc. I suspect the girls shoes aren't as robust because they only play hopscotch Wink I would complain.

idontlikealdi · 01/12/2021 11:06

Clarks really are shit, especially the patent ones which always cracked on us. Mine wear dms now, they are nearly a year old and still going strong and they are ry rough on their feet. Not sure how small they go down though.

AndMatt · 01/12/2021 11:07

I took back shoes that spit after a term.

I just asked the question "should they last longer than that?" and they replaced with new. They even remeasured his feet and gave the next size up!

AndMatt · 01/12/2021 11:10

I keep hearing about how bad Clarks are on here, but that was my only experience of shoes lasting less than a year for two boys who stayed in Clarks until they left school (their choice for comfort) and they dealt with it brilliantly.

irishfarmer · 01/12/2021 11:16

I would have always thought clarks were good shoes. That's what I mostly had as a child in 90s/00s have they gone bad?

I'd def take them back though, £50 shoes should last a lot longer than one term!

Lucked · 01/12/2021 11:20

For the last 4 years I have bought my daughters patent shoes from M&S, I go for the chunky styles with thick soles. All have lasted the full school year and looked great although she doesn’t do as much walking as your add.

Iputthetrampintrampoline · 01/12/2021 11:21

I dislike Clarks shoes for school,I bought 3 pairs over the years and always been disappointed, My dd now wears Sketchers and they have been outstanding,She is hard on her shoes and although they were slightly more than Clarks they have stood the test and i have been really impressed with them.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 01/12/2021 12:25

Interesting views thanks, her last pair of Clarks lasted the whole year although of course there was a lot of not going to school due to Covid and primary was only a 5 min walk away so no real comparison.

I will take them back and see what they think.

Ours always last the full year from Clarks

Loopyloulou007 · 01/12/2021 12:44

I won't buy Clark's anymore for that reason. Do you have an outlet near you. So you can get two pairs for the same price. Kickers have now starting scrimping also and gluing stuff and having faux stitching. Kickers used to be strong and sturdy n outlive you, not anymore.

gogohm · 01/12/2021 12:55

Depends on the child! With dd1 I would have been very annoyed but with dd2 it was normal as she played football in them!

Munchies123 · 01/12/2021 12:56

I've just returned my son's shoes having split after a few weeks. They gave me a new pair no problem. But I doubt I'll buy from there again. Good luck!

fluoropostit · 01/12/2021 12:58

I agree that I have moved to M&S from Clark’s and shoes holding up far better. Also £28.

They are also better shaped and more secure on dd feet.

Mydogisagentleman · 01/12/2021 13:13

DD wore Dr Martens for school.
I bought her 3 pairs of Clarke’s a year, around £60 a time.
She asked me for some DMs, we went to Norwich and she tried them on and fell in love.
I was nearly sick at the price, just over £100 including special balm and spare laces.
She is 20 and has had them for the past 7 years

DS's Treads shoes have lasted a year and still look new. Gutted to hear that they aren't trading. He is due a growth spurt so probably will start to grow out of them rather than break them. I think after that I will do what I did with the others and buy DMs, hideously expensive but they do last. Off to look at Toezone.

colouringindoors · 22/07/2022 08:20

I've found Clarks shoes to be great for many years. I'd take this pair back personally.

Can't afford Clarks now but have found m and s school shoes pretty good, and half the price...

ShandaLear · 22/07/2022 08:29

My DD gets Dr Martens school shoes. They’re about £5 more than Clark’s (until they get to the bigger sizes) and last until she grows out of them. When her feet stopped growing in Year 8, she wore the same pair until the end of Year 11 and will continue to wear them to college. I did pay about £100 for those but they’ve been excellent value per wear. They still look great and she still loves them.

ladygindiva · 22/07/2022 08:36

My girls wear Clarks and they last really well, but I buy traditional leather in boring styles , not patent girly shoes. I suspect that might make a difference.

MissPoldark · 22/07/2022 08:38

DS's Treads shoes have lasted a year and still look new
snap! Plus they’re not doused in anti bacterial stuff like other school shoes seem to be.
