WWYD air b and b claiming damage

We stayed for one night in an Air B and B. The owner wants £100 for damage they claim we made. We are unaware of it, though could have been responsible.

They want to resolve this without involving Air B and B.

Would you pay? Contact Air B and B (who i have booked around 100 stays with before without problem)?

Negotiation doesn't seem to be an option.

Hahaha @Somebodylikeyew I am posting you a cheque now

I want to know what the item in the drain was that was obviously the previous guests

If you refuse yo pay, she can then claim from Air BnB. Air BnB will not give your address to her to bring a small claim.

The host is being ridiculous asking for £100. Most hosts accept some wear and tear, as I said I claimed for a whole cooker recently.

You have punished her good and proper with that 1 star review though, haven't you? You have ensured that she will not be a superhost for at least a couple of years. If she gets another less than 5 star review she may get her listing suspended. I expect she has learned her lesson from you.

Good, I hope so.

I think the item in drains must have been a nappy? And the poster doesn’t have children

Onceuponatimethen · 02/12/2021 21:36

Op I’m also a bit fed up with Airbnb - not sure we will use again

NigellaAwesome · 02/12/2021 21:55

I'm an Airbnb host, and you do need to accept some wear & tear. We have lovely new carpets in our bedrooms, and someone dropped what appears to be hair straighteners on it and to left a small melted section. It annoys the fuck out of me every time I see it, but I didn't charge the guests. I see it as part of the costs of running the business. Similarly washing out red wine stains from cushion covers etc. Thankfully, 99% of our guests have been fantastic.

When you say 6cm square, I am assuming it is a water ring from a glass or cup? That could be sorted for much less than £100. Can you be specific about what the damage is / how it was allegedly caused, and we could perhaps advise? Also, if Airbnb are saying the terms were violated, which terms precisely? Was it that coasters should be used at all times?

Ooh the thread went quiet. I've offered her £80 and the friend I stayed with has blocked me (I never asked my friend for money. She is on minimum wage and quite depressed and booking in my name)

I think she has started out. I just couldn't handle the stress. The accusation more than anything, that I'd caused damage and done a runner.

You don't have to pay. Say no and she can get the money from Air BnB. That is how it works.

Fatgalslim · 03/12/2021 11:20

DO NOT PAY!

fakereview · 05/12/2021 13:48

Why have you offered her any money? For goodness sake just ignore her and move on.

EricCartmansUnderpants · 05/12/2021 13:52

All communication should go through Airbnb. That's it. I had a similar problem once. The Airbnb owner was a chancer. Airbnb dealt with them. Contact Airbnb and ask them to take this dispute up on your behalf.

AngelDelightUk · 05/12/2021 14:17

If your friend has now blocked you, you don’t think it could have been her who did the damage?

woodhill · 05/12/2021 14:23

Wouldn't you know if you have spilt something

Yes, your "friend" sounds dodgy

Elieza · 05/12/2021 14:53

I think it’s been the previous guests that caused the spill and they’ve already paid her

Air B and B will know this.

Hence she is trying to scam you with old photos she is claiming are new under Air’s radar.

Go through them. Sounds well dodgy. And ask for multiple new photos. As there may not be very many now it’s been paid for and repairs weeks ago ….

Or perhaps I’m just old and cynical??

TakeYourFinalPosition · 05/12/2021 15:10

When I responded, I thought you were aware of the damage - like you’d spilt red wine on a light wooden floor; but were just shocked at how much it’d cost.

If you’ve got no knowledge of the damage, don’t pay anything until Airbnb send you proof. It does, sadly, sound like your friend might have done something… but that’d depend what the suggested damage was!
