Lots of work and bad UTI- looking for some sympathy

That really….

I couldn’t get an appointment with my GP so have booked a private online consultation for 12.20 today. I really didn’t want to spend that money but last time I thought I would deal with it myself I ended up with blood in my urine, shivers and pain in my lower tummy.

It isn’t that bad yet but I can feel it getting worse. Feeling quite sorry for myself Sad

You could have rung 111 and they would have sent a prescription for some antibiotics to your local pharmacy! Cancel the appointment and do that if you can.

Bagelsandbrie · 30/11/2021 09:50

Superdrug online also have a facility to issue antibiotics for UTIs without seeing a doctor.

Seconded Prescriptions for UTIs can be done via 111

Bags of sympathy here! Sad

I had a really bad one a few months ago that I stupidly thought I could just flush out with water (well that wasn't stupid in itself because sometimes it does work, but I let it go on far too long). Eventually I needed 2 courses of antibiotics to shift it and was so miserable.

I got another one a couple of weeks ago and was straight down to the pharmacy within 48hrs (pharmacists can do a drop in prescription for uncomplicated UTI here - Scotland, not sure about elsewhere in the UK) and was feeling much better within 24 hours of taking the 3 day course.

Fingers crossed you're better soon!

111 will be better and probably faster though.

MothExterminator · 30/11/2021 10:08

I can’t cancel my online appointment ☹️. Oh well, £39 and I will hopefully have a prescription at 12.30. I will definitely use 111 next time, I feel quite stupid now.

ditalini, thank you. That is exactly what I tried to do last time, flush it out with water and lemon. I got increasingly worse and by the evening I had blood in the urine Sad. I am a bit scared of UTIs now. Mine seem to get worse really quickly.

Hope you feel better soon 💐💐

I'm not sure where in the country you are but in Scotland you can walk into any pharmacy and the pharmacist can prescribe an antibiotic for a UTI.

MothExterminator · 30/11/2021 12:19

I am in England.

I had mistaken the time, it was at 12 so just made the online appointment. I will have a prescription faxed/ to the pharmacy in about the same 10min. I can’t wait.

I have gotten nothing done this morning Sad

I know its too late now but for next time you don't need a GP appointment. Next time call your surgery and ask them if you can drop a urine sample in, they should get the nurse to check it and then send a prescription to the chemist. At least this is what my surgery does, I've had 6 UTI's in the last 10 weeks.

PompomDahlia · 30/11/2021 12:32

In the meantime can you get to Holland and Barrett and pick up some D Mannose? I find I get a bit of immediate relief from taking that. Then once you’re better you can take it regularly

MothExterminator · 30/11/2021 12:54

Mummy Flowers. I know the feeling

D Mannose? I will get it now. My prescription is delivered and there is an H&B next to the pharmacy

D mannose is worth looking into. Was life changing for me. I used it daily for about 2/3 months after a series bouts of it and (touch wood) it’s not returned.. I’ve used it in high doses twice to stop it in its tracks too..!

spiderlight · 30/11/2021 16:56

Another vote for D Mannose. I also find Cystopurin really effective if I start taking it at the very first sign. The other sachet treatments do nothing, but Cystopurin has saved me from needing antibiotics many times.

MothExterminator · 02/12/2021 09:53

Hi Everyone, just a quick update. I am on my third day of antibiotics and am starting to feel a bit better.

I have a GP appointment on Monday. I think this is my fourth UTI in about 7 month, before that I almost never had them.

I suspect menopause and will ask the doctor how to manage it. I don’t know much about menopause but I have flooding issues, anxiety, trouble sleeping and my day 2/3 FSH was 18. Oh, and I am 50 years old….

I will buy the D Mannose and also try Cystopurin, I just want to discuss with the GP first. I am very happy to take any medication prescribed or recommended but I am a bit worried about taking a lot of new things at the same time of that makes sense.

Thank you all for your support!

It sounds hormonal yes. I had similar (peri menopause - low oestrogen) and was prescribed oestrogen vaginally which helped

MothExterminator · 02/12/2021 10:22

That sounds encouraging Sunnyside. Thank you!

I think I have tried to soldier on through the other symptoms but I just cannot deal with these recurring UTIs. It is just too painful.
