An app to help my 5yo learn to read?

My ds needs some extra help and I am looking into some options. Can anyone recommend any apps that I could do 5 mins a day with him?

We don't have much access to a computer

Reading eggs

mummymummymummummum · 29/11/2021 07:59

We have Teach Your Monster to Read and Reading Eggs. Both seem pretty good. I don't pressurised mine to use them daily, but they still get a fair bit of attention because they're fun 🤩

Teach Your Monster to Read is great. I used it with both of mine.

Also later on Reading Eggs

Could the school recommend something suitable?

HeyFloof · 29/11/2021 08:13

Reading eggs, definitely.

Teach your monster to read is amazing. It really really helped my five year old over lockdown. His teacher could not believe now much his reading had come on

minipie · 29/11/2021 08:22

Yep Teach your monster to read

I think we also had Pirate Phonics

Both free

reading eggs is paid for

trying29 · 29/11/2021 08:24

reading eggs is brilliant. My 6 year old refused all phonics work with me but the app he loved and raced through. my jsut 4 year old is starting now on it, before Reception next year. It's done in such a fun way. You can get a 30 day free trial to start with.

IkaBaar · 29/11/2021 08:27

Not an app, but Alphablocks is on iPlayer- so free. They say it works with the different phonics systems schools use.

We use reading eggs, but that’s because school pays!

whyohwhyohwhyohwhywhy · 29/11/2021 13:38

Is alphablocks just a programme though? I want something interactive. I'll have a look at monster, thanks

You can get alphablocks magazines/ workbooks too.

victoriaspongecake · 29/11/2021 14:13

No need for an app. Just yourself and a book. Show him a love of reading and he will learn.

If only it were that easy Victoria. This place is stuffed with books and people reading. He still needs some help
